Welcome to HYU SCE Lab.
Taebok Kim is the director and assistant for the Supply Chain Engineering Lab and has been a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Hanyang University in the Republic of Korea since September 2016. After earning his master’s degree from POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) in 1993, he joined the Korea Air Force Academy (KAFA) as a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering as part of his military service. He subsequently returned to POSCO (Pohang Steel & Iron Co.) as an Industrial Engineer, where he worked from 1996 to 2001 before pursuing his Ph.D.
After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a deputy manager in the Supply Chain Management Group at Samsung Electronics Co., where his primary role involved supporting SCM-related business activities across several business units. In 2006, he joined the faculty at the Graduate School of Logistics at Incheon National University.
To date, he has published numerous papers in several peer-reviewed international journals, including OMEGA: International Journal of Management Science, Transportation Research - Part E, International Journal of Production Economics, and International Journal of Production Research. His research primarily focuses on economic lot-sizing problems, which are critical for operating any large or practical supply chain. He views supply chains as a series of lot-sizing decisions between linked supply chain actors. His research topics stem from these lot-sizing decisions and incorporate other relevant issues, such as pricing, quality, lead time, and supply chain contracts. Recently, he has been studying the efficient management of Returnable Transport Items (RTI) within economical forward-reverse or closed-loop supply chains.
In addition, his major research interests include the optimal design of integrated supply chain and logistics systems, as well as ergonomic design for logistics systems. Detailed information about his publications can be found on his Google Scholar page. He also serves as an Editorial Board Member for several international peer-reviewed journals, including International Journal of Inventory Research, International Journal of Remanufacturing, Scientia Iranica - Transaction E, Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering (JIPE), and Logistics. He enjoys taking on new research challenges and forming partnerships with individuals worldwide who share common research interests and motivations.
