Dr. Hyesun Jeong is the founder of Studio Wanderlust and an assistant professor of urban design at the University of Cincinnati, where she co-directs the Simpson Center for Urban Futures. Her work integrates architecture and planning to promote sustainable and cultural placemaking in urban environments. Focusing on pedestrian mobility and street-level activities, her research explores the intricate relationship between the built environment and social behavior.
Previously, Dr. Jeong taught at the Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Chicago, and the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture, and PhD in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
With a commitment to cultural diversity, Dr. Jeong’s research on interdisciplinary urbanism is informed by her experiences living abroad. She has worked with prestigious international design firms, including Goettsch Partners (Chicago), Dominique Perrault Architecture (Paris), Hammersley Architecture (Chicago), and POSCO Architects and Consultants (Seoul). Currently, she is writing her book, Creating Sustainable Cities from Pedestrian Urbanism, which will be published by Routledge. Recently, her project was honored with a national Upjohn Grant Initiative award from the American Institute of Architects. Her research has been featured in a New York Times article in 2024.
