Your team supervisor will provide you in this section the team task(s)
(online phase and for the two weeks intensive course).
Online Phase
08 November 2024
The kick-off meeting - introduction to the Skawa Catchment
"There is nothing more practical than a good theory" (L.Boltzmann)
Theory: hydrogeology, groundwater flow, transport of substances dissolved in groundwater, (...)
For the teaching materials see: https://sites.google.com/view/hydroeurope2025/case-studies/upper-skawa
For the next meeting: 22.11.2024 3 pm MS Teams (the same link like before)
Self-study to understand groundwater basics.
Complete the team 6 google site.
22 November 2024
Groundwater flow (lecture)
For the next meeting: 29.11.2024 3 pm MS Teams (the same link like before)
Install the ModelMuse software and models:
ModelMuse package: https://www.usgs.gov/software/modelmuse-a-graphical-user-interface-groundwater-models
Models (please use MODFLOW-2005. MODPATH and MT3DMS models): https://github.com/MODFLOW-USGS/executables
Use the ModelMuse package to create a flow model based on the description located here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kUdUsyiIWDDghmmGT_Tsf35LRzGEBrdA/view?usp=sharing
6 December 2024
Short meeting - your model results (please be prepered). 3 pm MS Teams (the same link like before).
12 December 2024
Short meeting - your model results (please be prepered). 2 pm MS Teams (the same link like before).
20 December 2024
Short meeting - continuation of the basic case study. 1 pm MS Teams (the same link like before).
10 January 2025
Individual report - submission.
The report should include:
Description of the problem, conceptual model, parameters and variables.
Results and their interpretation.
Sensitivity analysis – chose two or three parameters/variables and and show the calculation results for different values of these variables/parameters (flow model + contamination transport model).
Conlusions.
Meetings at 12pm and 1pm MS Teams (the same link like before).
24 January 2025

This is a task for the whole group.
You should choose a task leader and students responsible for individual parts.
Important: the data developed in this task will be used in the next steps to build a groundwater flow model.
