Dr Eve Daly, B. Sc. (Hons) Physics and PhD (Geophysics) is a lecturer in Earth and Ocean Science at the University of Galway with expertise in Geophysical remote sensing with both terrestrial and airborne datasets with applications in coastal zone management, catchment management, and agriculture. Eve is a member of the Royal Irish Academy’s Geoscience committee and and member of the joint working group with Met Eireann and Teagasc on Agricultural Meteorology. She was awarded the Presidents Research Excellence award for PhD supervision in 2024.

New Toy: Radiometric Sensor and drone
Prof Brown is an Emeritus Professor in Earth and Ocean Sciences at NUI Galway. He was formerly Director of the Ryan Institute (2009 – 2017), University of Galway’s hub for environment and energy research. His expertise is in geophysics, electromagnetics, acoustics, remote sensing, numerical modelling, neural networks and classification.
Dr Aaron Golden
Dr. Golden is an Associate Professor in the University of Galway's School of Natural Sciences' Physics Division. An astrophysicist by training, he is interested in applying novel techniques and problem-solving skills derived from the astronomical sciences to other domains, ranging from genomics to climate science. His expertise is in interdisciplinary physics generally and in the context of the HY-RES group, is particularly interested in the remote sensing of sub-soil moisture and groundwater, and in the use of nuclear techniques to that end. He is currently Director of the University of Galway's Centre for Astronomy.
Dr O’Leary started his career at the University of Ireland Galway, where he pursued an undergraduate degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences. Followed by a Master's degree in Exploration Geophysics from Leeds University. He returned to pursue, a Ph.D. at the University of Galway in 2018 and was awarded a PhD in 2023. His PhD was on Digital Soil mapping using machine learning and airborne radiometrics with a focus on peatlands. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher on the REWET project. Expertise in the application of Gamma ray spectrometry to environmental problems and machine learning.

Kamen Cooley-Green PhD student 2024-2028
Kamen holds a master's in physics from the University of Manchester. His research interests are centred around terrestrial radiation and nuclear safety. Kamen will be working on the EPA funded GRaDE project to update Irelands outdoor gamma radiation dose map with collogues in SETU and UCD. His PhD is co-supervised with Dr Liam Morrison.
Hilary Pierce PhD student 2023-2027
Hilary has an undergraduate degree in Environmental science from Iowa State University and a master's degree from the University of Minnesota in Natural resources science and management. Her master's research looked at the effect of stream channel incision on the depth to shallow groundwater in adjacent floodplains. Prior to starting her PhD, Hilary worked as an environmental consultant in California. Hilary joined the REWET project in 2023. This Project aims to assess the hydrologic impacts of water table management on grassland peat soils. Her Project is co-supervised with Prof Mark Healy
Rumia Basu PhD 2024
Rumia completed a bachelors in Chemistry from Miranda House, University of Delhi and masters in Geoinformatics from TERI University, New Delhi. She started a PhD at the University of Galway in 2020. The project aimed at using optical remote sensing data in combination with in situ data to study soil moisture across farms in Ireland. Her Phd was funded by Teagasc via the SFI VistaMilk Research centre, under the Walsh Scholarship programme.

Somaye has a background in Geophysics, with a focus on Seismology. She completed her MSc at the University of Galway in collaboration with the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), where she worked on analyzing frequency and time-domain airborne electromagnetic data from the Irish Tellus program. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Galway, researching Ireland’s deep groundwater resources using seismic reflection data
Micheal received a PhD in 2021 for a project on mapping and assessing seaweed resources along the west of Irealand. Dr Liam Morrison was his primary supervisor. Micheal is currently a Researcher for Acadian Seaplants, Canada
Magan used an integrated approach, involving structural geology, geophysics, petrography, sedimentology and palynology, to resolve the nature and timing of a deep infilled doline along the proposed route of the Galway City Ring Road. Megan’s supervisory team at the University of Galway comprised of Dr. Bryan McCabe (Civil Engineering) Dr. John Murray, Dr. Tiernan Henry and Dr. Eve Daly (Earth and Ocean Sciences), with Geological Society Ireland and Arup Consulting Engineers also supporting the project.
EurGeol Dr. Yvonne O’Connell, PGeo is a director and senior geophysicist at Apex Geophysics Ltd. Yvonne holds a Ph.D. in geophysics from University of Galway (2017), an M.Sc. in Applied Geophysics and a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences. With over 25 years of experience in geophysical investigations for the engineering, environmental and resource sectors Yvonne decided to return to University to do PhD and graduated in 2017 . Her project was funded by the Griffiths Geoscience progarmme of the Geological survey of Ireland, and was on the Hydrogeophysics of Coastal Aquifers. The work sowed the seeds of this research groups focus.
