HV Simulators was founded by two electrical technicians who saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and real-world high voltage operations. Combining their practical industry experience with a vision for safer, more effective training, they developed a simulator that transforms traditional grid training into an immersive, interactive and zero-harm simulated environment.
What started as an at-home project has grown into a powerful new approach to high voltage operational training, bringing the realism of the substation into a safe, controlled and highly engaging training environment.
Co-Founder & SCADA Integration Specialist
With more than 30 years’ experience in the electricity industry, Steve W brings specialised expertise in SCADA systems and control system integration to HV Simulators.
His extensive technical knowledge has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the simulator’s SCADA functionality, helping ensure the training environment accurately reflects the systems and interactions operators encounter in real-world substation operations.
Steve began his electrical apprenticeship with Oxley Electricity in 1994. Following his apprenticeship, he worked in zone substations across construction, maintenance, SCADA installation and commissioning, and most recently as a Specialist Protection Technician.
Steve has a passion for learning and sharing his knowledge with apprentices and colleagues. He enjoys a challenge and is committed to continuous improvement and developing practical solutions.
Outside of the electricity industry, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and children, travelling, cutting opals and playing golf.
Co-Founder & Technical Director
With more than 18 years’ experience in the electricity industry as an Electrical Technician, Steve D brings extensive practical experience and technical knowledge of high-voltage operations, protection and substation environments.
As the driving force behind the technical development of HV Simulators, Steve’s first-hand industry experience has been instrumental in identifying the gap between traditional training and the realities of operational switching, and in shaping the design and development of the simulator.
Steve began his electrical apprenticeship with Country Energy in 2008. Following his apprenticeship, he worked in zone substations across construction and maintenance before specialising in protection.
Steve is a natural problem-solver with a strong ability to think creatively and practically. He enjoys teaching and finding new ways to communicate complex processes, helping others understand difficult concepts from different perspectives. His practical approach and focus on continuous improvement are central to the development of HV Simulators.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time in his shed working on electronics, and 3D printing. He also enjoys travelling and spending time with his family and dog.
