In the summer of 2020, a HVLA subcommittee launched a consortium launched a consortium for the purpose of creating a shared ebook and audiobook library, partnering with OverDrive and its Sora platform. A few features that have been especially popular with our members are:
User-friendly Sora app for students
Seamless integration with public library collections
Extensive catalogue of popular titles
Our OverDrive Sora Collection includes:
10,295 unique ebooks (68,667 copies)
1,666 unique audiobooks (4,911 copies)
583 simultaneous-use magazines titles
3 World Language Collections (French, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish)
lending period of 14 days
short wait periods for holds (3:1 Holds Ratio)
“As a solo librarian in a small school the Consortium has been a huge help. It has doubled our collection and taken the work of maintaining and advertising the ebook collection off of my shoulders and I could not be more pleased.” — Abbey Gans Mather, Librarian, Quad Preparatory School, NY
“Thank you! I am so delighted that we got this consortium collection off the ground. What a great resource!” — Gwen Kaplan, Librarian, The Heschel School, NY
"The consortium is vital in supplementing our digital collection! The newsletter is great because I can send it to students and faculty and every month it reminds our community that Sora is available to them."— Joy Piedmont, Librarian and Upper School DEIA Coordinator, The Brearley School
"Thank you for all the time, work, and thought you put into this collection. It has been a game-changer for us." — Jenny Rosenoff, Director of Libraries and Research, Montclair Kimberley Academy
