The Hopewell Valley Central High School Lettuce Club is a club that meets once a year for an hour. Very simply, participants have an hour to eat a head of iceberg lettuce. Whoever eats his lettuce the fastest becomes the president for next year and is in charge of scheduling the next meeting and choosing who will fill the cabinet positions.

Can I bring a topping?

Yes. Drench your lettuce in ranch should you so choose.

Does it have to be iceberg lettuce?

Yes.

Can I cook it?

No, that's gross.

What if I win and I'm a senior?

You still become the President but have to choose a Vice President that can and will serve in your place in the following year (i.e. cannot be a senior).

So, is this a democracy?

No, it's a meritocracy
