Tip #1: After finishing writing an essay, put it into google translate so you can hear your essay back to find any mistakes.
Tip #2: Use wordhippo.com to find words that you can not think of, but you are able to describe the word you are looking for
Tip #3: get comfortable with writing whatever comes to mind, and make sure to take your time then to edit! you should be spending a good chunk of time editing the piece as much as writing it initially!
tip #4: if you can cut out unnecessary words, do so. make sure to get all the important information out, no need to over exaggerate on ideas that do not need it
tip #5: avoid obscure vocab, if it does not sound like you, do not change it just to sound "more intelligent", stick with your own voice
tip #6: do not put essays off to the last second, better to have more time to elaborate on different themes that come to mind
tip #7: use the LArc for help! the school provides many resources on campus to help you with your writing and other skills, definitely take advantage of that!
Tip #1: When taking notes on a book, break up your notes into different highlighted portions ( example: red highlighter = a question, yellow highlighter= examples or important quotes, purple highlighter= different people
Tip #2: make sure to always reference the page number and author when jotting down a quote ( it will be way easier to implement that quote into a paper)
tip #3: summarize concepts that stood out to you in bullet points using your own words, this will make it way easier to transfer it into an essay and allow you to elaborate more
Tip #4: give your notes titles and date them! as well as headers throughout your notes ( like list the chapter and/ or the title of the chapter)
Tip #5: hand write your notes! you will remember so much more if you hand write your notes out!
tip #6: put your phone on do not disturb while reading so you are less likely to get distracted from notifications off of your phone
tip #7: set a timer for the amount of time you want to read ( this will allow you to then also take breaks once the timer goes off)
Tip #1:Write your notes, flashcards, etc. with blue ink ( you are more likely to remember it than in black)
Tip #2: Chew peppermint gum while studying and while you take your tests, it allows you to concentrate better
Tip #3: make sure to break up your study times (study for 30 minutes to an hour and then take a 1o minute break in between)
Tip #4: make your own flashcards for important topics that you need to study, either do it the old fashion way on physical flashcards or use quizlet
tip #5: get your roommates or friends to quiz you (this will help you memorize/ test your knowledge more like you were going to take the test)
tip #6: listen to classical/ video game soundtrack music (like mario kart) while you study
tip #7: make sure you change up your scenery every once in a while while studying ( go around campus, to a friend's dorm, starbucks, outside in the grass, library study room,etc.)
Tip #1: participate! there is no right or wrong answers that the professor is looking for you to say in seminar
tip #2: exchange phone numbers with classmates after the first day of class ( either have just a few friends or make a class text groupchat)
tip #3: show up to class! you do get graded on participation, but you will learn so much more from the readings from the experiences in seminar
tip #4: try taking different styles of notes ( like cornell or specific quotes/ analyze them afterwards in your notes to not lose your thought)
tip #5: come prepared with questions: it is always good to be ready to go with a few questions that stood out to you to get the seminar running
tip #6: do not fear when there is silence, allow yourself to take the time to form your next thought, or pose a new question to the class to switch gears
tip #7: do the reading! your professor can tell if you did or did not read based on the way you respond during seminar
