A simple traditional gyroscope modified to suit different manufacturing needs will be fabricated and assembled to meet following objectives with a correct design and manufacturing process:
1. Create a technical drawing(s) of the part(s) to manufacture
2. Establish a process plan (Process Sheet) to derive the steps on how to manufacture the parts designated by the technical drawings.
3. Safely learn how to operate the various machines and manufacture the designed components( Lathe and Mill machines).
4. Inspect the manufactured components and validate them against the set of tolerances provided.
It allowed to develop technical drawings of the parts being manufactured reinforcing their Computer Aided Design knowledge while respecting ASME Y14.5. Below are some of the important drawing.
1) Gyroscope Frame
2) Gyroscope Assembly
Process sheets are templates used to sequentially plan a manufacturing event and list each process and tools required for each and every step. Process plans for the components to be manufactured will be derived which will include but not limited to calculating spindle speed, machine feed, material removal rates as well as process times given specific tools and materials.
The inspection report will be used to verify if the components you manufactured are within tolerance comparing them with the manufacturing drawing dimensions given.
The following is a step by step guide for you to assemble the gyroscope.
1. DEBURRING
Before starting to assemble, make sure you debur and file your parts separately because deburing and filing is hard after the assembly. The tools needed are: files, circular and rapid circular deburing tool.
2. ROTOR-SHAFT ASSEMBLY
In order to do assemble the shaft and rotor, use the arbor press and make sure to use oil fluid cut, press the shaft into the rotor for a snug fit. Use the spacer block to set the height and then use one hand to apply as much force as possible to move the arbor press handle up and down until the shaft arrives at the required height.
3. FRAME-SHAFT-ROTOR ASSEMBLY
Before FRAME-SHAFT-ROTOR ASSEMBLY use arbor press a make a rectengular square in through hole. The rotor and shaft are now ready to be assembled with the frame. Now, in order to fix them to the frame, use one upper and one lower shaft guide 91375A199 #8-32 setscrews and two #8-32 nuts.
· upper shaft guide 91375A199 #8-32 setscrews
·
low shaft guide 91375A199 #8-32 setscrews
· #8-32 nuts
a. Insert the Setscrews in the tapped holes in the sides of frame .
b. Put nuts on upper and lowered tapered holes on the frame.
c. Tight the setscrews using the nuts by washer screw driver. Take the small diameter section of the rotor as a reference plane perpendicular to the upper setscrew.
4. RING ASSEMBLY
In order to assemble the ring to the slots at the sides of the frame.
a. Place the ring aligned with the hole of the frame
b. Collect two pop rivets. Place the assembly of the frame in the tightening support so your frame side slots are easy to reach.
c. Using a pop rivet gun, fasten the ring to the frame
d. Aassembly is officially done.
