Hey Huskies,
As your next Director of Diversity Efforts, I am dedicated to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within UW’s community; while also amplifying voices of the student body, especially the voices of the underrepresented communities. As a Middle Eastern immigrant whose identity lacks representation, I am aware of the implications that come with the absence of representation which is why I am dedicated to increasing the presence of marginalized communities on campus through:
Working to amplify the voices of SARVA, Q Center, and D Center and to improve the DRS for students.
Working with commissions to increase diversity and recognition of different identities.
Working to rid our campus of colonial and imperialist figures and replace them with positive diverse figures.
Increasing UW’s recognition of diversity beyond traditional means, but through religious, cultural, disability, ethnic, sexuality, gender expression, and more as well as racial means.
Working with the Black Student Union to advocate their 7 demands to increase safety for everyone on campus.
My experience with the Middle Eastern Student Commission advocating for the Middle East and North Africa category within UW and on the state level as well as being a student senator helped me gauge many student concerns that the University has been neglecting which I plan to address.
