Attendance

Regular attendance at school for every student is essential if students are to achieve their full potential. Children are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick or injured, have an infectious illness such as chicken pox, have to attend a special religious ceremony or there is a serious family situation which requires their involvement.

If your child is away from school, you must provide an explanation for the absence by means such as a telephone call, written note, notify us via School Stream or an email to the school within 7 days.

If a student misses as little as 8 days in each school term, by the end of primary school they will have missed over a year of school.

Late arrivals and early leavers

Arriving at school on time:

  • ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day

  • Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine

  • Gives students time to greet their friends before class

  • Reduces classroom disruption

When a child is late to school it is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.

You will need to bring your child to the office where their late arrival will be recorded and they can then continue to class. If you are unable to accompany your child, please give them a note explaining why they are late which they can hand to the office staff.

If you have to pick up your child before the end of school you will need to contact the school explaining why they are leaving early and what time you will be collecting them.

Your child will wait in the office until you arrive and can then be signed out early.

Medical

There will be occasions when your child will fall ill at school or may have an accident.

Sometimes they just need an ice pack or bandaid and will return to class. Other times the office will call the parent to come and pick up their child. Your child must not return to school until they are fully recovered.

If your child requires medication during the school day please let the office know. We have a number of procedures that we are legally required to follow before we can assistant in the administration of medication to any student.

Payments

Our preferred method of payment is electronic. We have an online payment portal that is linked to the school’s website to make it easier for you to pay for school related payments.

This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school.

When you receive an excursion note that requires payment or the statement of account, you can log onto the school site at https://hume-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ and click on the link “Make a Payment” and follow the prompts to make a payment via Visa or Mastercard.

When you access the “Make a Payment” you must enter the student’s name, class and date of birth. These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system.

We also have an EFTPOS facility at the front counter if you would prefer to use this.

Communication

Communication is essential with the school community. We keep our Facebook page regularly updated and also upload our fortnightly newsletter to Facebook and on our website. It is also available on our School Stream app which you can download onto your device. School Stream is used to send notifications and information to our student families. This is very handy to have in the case of a cancellation of an excursion due to wet weather.

The newsletter includes a calendar of events and we endeavour to keep you updated on what is happening at school.
