Our VALUES
I remember the first time enjoying the taste of brussels sprouts. Picked from the odd looking stalk and cooked over an open fire on an organic farm, those tiny heads of packed leaves made me realize I can enjoy any vegetable if I just figure out how I like it prepared.
I was traveling through the beautiful hills of northern California on my way back to Georgia and the farm offered a place to stay in exchange for a few hours of work ripping out tomato plants and shelling fava beans for seed the next year.
That experience has lingered over the years and introduced me to the unique world of small-scale agriculture. In addition to the nurturing feeling and beauty surrounding small farms we always hope our food comes from, I routinely taste the difference between store-bought carrots or tomatoes versus fresh from the farmers market.
I have been accused of having a sense of fearlessness in the kitchen and love to create meals from scratch and share them with good company. Supporting good clean food and the people who provide it is something I have come to value highly and believe is vital for all aspects of a healthy future.
I also cherish a room full of pre-schoolers get excited to "eat the rainbow" including beets for the first time or the college student that mentions they have never seen a potato plant. These connections and opportunities have all been fuel to this fire.
This farm is not only about great tasting veggies and fresh air, but my way of deciding to BE THE CHANGE I want to see in our food system and communities. It's my time to get dirty and do my part in understanding the aspects and challenges of bringing back farming practices that make sense. From the history of seeds and mysteries of the soil to the handshake or hug as it changes to your hands and kitchen...
Thanks for creating a better community through your food choices.
The success of this project could be the hardest single adventure in my life. I will be humbled by nature through understanding the inner workings of the soil, water, air, and people around me.
Find Us to SUPPORT CHANGE in our food system.
Sincerely,
Andrew Linker
Land Steward at Humble Vine Farm
*Certified Naturally Grown is a grassroots alternative to US Department of Agriculture's Organic Program. I do not believe in using synthetic chemicals, but I also believe you SHOULD NOT take MY word for it! See our inspection reports and/or plan a visit to see for yourself.
Humble Vine, the name, is an allegory: a metaphor for my journey through life and interactions with the natural world (and people) as we reach toward the light, just as humble vines do.
This farm is my creative outlet, my passion, my education, my dream, and hopefully a small part of legacy extending for generations. Start small, start somewhere.
