“I came to Fresno from my little town La Piedra Ancha in Nayarit, Mexico, in 1999. I was 19 years old and I came on a whim. It wasn’t planned, my cousin just asked if I wanted to come with him to the U.S. and I said yes. When I got here, I lived with my aunt and cousins who helped me get on my feet. I’d work to help pay bills and return the favor to my aunt, but I’d also go out and have fun since I was a young guy getting used to my new surroundings. Sometimes I look back and wonder how different things would have been if I had declined my cousin's offer and stayed in Mexico, but what I do know is that I wouldn’t want to have it any other way. I have a good job, an amazing family, and a place to call home.”
