Before I took this course, I felt as though I was an effective and equitable educator. I knew I had room to grow and educational tools to incorporate into the online classroom. This program has made me realize that I was not as far along as I would like to be! There are a lot of things that I have done and are currently doing correctly, but there is so much room for me to grow. I knew I had room to grow, but I did not know anything about making a webpage, liquid syllabus, or mini videos! I am so happy that I have gotten to learn these throughout the past six weeks and I have found so much value in these tools! I have learned what it is to be a student, a clear communicator, and have very clear written expectations!
Where I am.
This course helped me acquire a more technologically-sophisticated skill set in online lecture presentation. I now appreciate the value in spending time creating higher quality humanizing videos to demonstrate instructor personality, approachability, and flexibility. Microlectures support busy student schedules in providing flexibility in scheduling learning tasks, and help with creating an appropriate balance between high context and low context classroom cultures.
Where I am going.
I will continue to grow the technological and pedagogical skill sets acquired during this course, with focus on supporting students wherever they may be on their academic journeys. The recognition of complex issues such as imposter syndrome and ongoing microaggressions will be foremost in mind.
