Our Math 1D course is an fully "asynchronous" course. This means that there are no mandatory Zoom classes. Each week, you will proceed through a "Checklist of Requirements" which includes viewing pre-recorded lectures, participating in online group discussions, collaborating on online reading logs & labs, and completing online homework assignments.
Start Date and Log in Deadline
Our course begins on April 22! Please log in to our Canvas course shell no later than midnight of the first day of the course.
It is easy to feel lost in a fully asynchronous course! Each weekday, 8:30 - 10:30 am, I hold daily topical study sessions. Although not designed as a formal lecture, we use the time to work on problems, review material, and work through lab assignments. I hope that you will routinely drop in!
Before class begins, you will need to purchase access to the online Pearson My Lab and Mastering course materials. To do this, click on "MyLab and Mastering" on the left side of your Math 1D Canvas (iLearn) screen. Follow the links and instructions for creating your account and paying for the materials. Other than the access code for the Pearson My Lab and Mastering, you will not need to purchase other materials for the course. Approximate cost is $84.99 if purchased directly through Canvas . It is generally much more expensive to purchase through the campus bookstore. Look for the 18-week option for the best pricing. It is totally fine to wait until the day before our first class to purchase this.
Although the above purchase price includes an electronic edition of the required textbook, some students also wish to acquire a paper copy of the book. This is entirely optional. The textbook is the 8th edition of Calculus: Early Transcendentals 8th Edition by James Stewart. At the current time, pricing on Amazon is approximately $18 to rent or $38 to purchase used.
A graphing calculator is necessary for this course.
