The Sync desktop application is available for Windows and Mac operating systems. When you install Sync on your computer the app will create a special Sync folder. The Sync folder works just like any other folder, and provides the following features:

Desktop app settings are specific to the computer you have installed Sync on. Account-wide settings are managed exclusively from the Sync.com web panel. Once Sync is installed on your computer, you can access the Sync desktop app preferences as follows:

The Advanced tab allows you to control which folders get synced to each computer, a feature called selective sync. Selective sync is typically used if Sync is installed on multiple computers, and you want to control which folders (in your Sync folder) get synchronized to each computer.

folders within your Sync folder get synced to each computer. This is accomplished via selective sync as follows:

When a folder is deselected via selective sync it will show a grey circle with a minus sign overlay icon, signifying that it is no longer syncing and safe to delete from your computer (to free up space). If you re-check a folder in the future, Sync will re-download it from the cloud.

If you are trying to use selective sync to control which folders other people can access, we recommend you setup team shared folders instead. Team shared folders give you granular control over folder access. See the how to use team shared folders article for more details.

The Sync desktop app automatically verifies all files and folders in your Sync folder for consistency, and the status icon in the Windows system tray or Mac menu bar will display as in sync when verification is confirmed.

To prevent syncing problems across different operating systems and platforms, a subset of incompatible characters are not supported by Sync. Files named with these characters may be skipped (not uploaded), and will be listed under the desktop app progress tab (regardless of syncing status).

Tip: If you use a work or school account, you might not be able to use Drive for desktop or your organization might have to install it for you. If you have questions, ask your administrator.

If you sync an Apple Photos Library with Drive, everything syncs, including thumbnails and other metadata. Making changes to these files from another computer or in the cloud isn't recommended, it can corrupt your library.

To find your files in Drive, search in Drive for desktop. When you search in Drive for desktop, rather than in Windows Search or macOS Spotlight, it ensures that your search includes all files from the Drive streaming location.

I changed my password. Logged out of the other devices that access my dropbox and then logged in with the new password. In doing so I notice there is now a desktop folder. I do not want drop box to share my desktop files. So I deleted the folder.

Dropbox doesn't (and can't) sync the items on your Desktop on its own. It will only sync the items located within the local Dropbox folder on your hard drive. There have been work-arounds and other third-party utilities that allowed you to sync folders outside of Dropbox, but they are not supported.

I had the same problem as you. I inadvertantly checked the box to sync my desktop folders. I tried to delete the desktop folder deep within the dropbox file structure and ended up deleting important documents on my desktop permanently. I was very frustrated and confused. Since I have important information synced with dropbox right now I haven't looked into it further. Did you figure out a solution?

So, ignoring the WebDAV for a moment, I cannot use the desktop app to view contents of folders without also syncing them. If I want to see them, I have to sync/download the contents to my computer. Am I understanding that correctly?

Years back, I used symlinks to sync my Home directory folders to Dropbox between multiple Macs. Of course, that isn't possible any longer, and I had to drop the links. Since then, Dropbox introduced backups, and I see now they allow all the Home directory folders to be backed up. My question is, can I use Backup as I did with the symlink and sync the Home directory Folders between multiple Macs, or will Dropbox create multiple root folders for each system?

The use case would be to have two macs that would be kept perfectly synchronized through dropbox including their Desktop, Document, Download, etc folders. One computer, say would be at home and the other at work; working on one would update everything on the other so that switching computers would become seamless. With the existing systems both are backuped, but in different directories., requiring manually synchronizing these directories.

Calendars and contacts are not as closely tied to email if you are on Android, compared to the PC. They are mostly managed directly by the Android system, supporting all kinds of front-end apps and back-end synchronization services. So K-9 is maybe not the best app if you look for contacts synchronization. I would rather ask at the DAVx5 forum, for example, which is a calendar and contact sync backend.

I have nextcloud as my main source for calendar, contacts, and file storage(and other stuff like notes with its apps), from there i sync its calendar and contacts with the thunderbird desktop and on android using davx5. For mail from my domain names i have desktop thunderbird syncing down from my domain host but leaving messages on the server for a certain amount of days, then in k9 i set up imap to sync those emails and i can get notifications on my phone when i get new emails.

i have no need to keep all my devices in constant sync with all my emails, its unnecessary. i have gigs and gigs of emails going back to 2008. i dont want that on my phone or every single device. my main desktop is where my emails will live where i can back up the email box files and keep them safe on my NAS.

Prior search results on Sync problems were outdated and closed. They also indicated problems with Syncing. This post is to perhaps update a new user, like myself, on how to Sync Bookmarks when switching over to Brave from Chrome.

I created a sync chain on my Samsung S10 cell phone as the Sync option did not appear on my desktop version. Then added my Samsung Galaxy Tab device. But no bookmarks could be added at this point.

My desktop Brave did not have Sync in the Settings menu until I discovered that Sync is turned off by default (too much searching involved to find that answer).

Resolution: simply go to brave://flags and search for Sync It is down at the bottom of the search results for some reason. Follow instructions to Enable Sync on your desktop. Then I simply joined my desktop to the sync chain (via my cell phone where the chain started). All my Chrome bookmarks arrived at all devices and synced clear and without error. I thinned the herd as some bookmarks were outdated and the other devices updated immediately.

If you are starting from scratch, it is probably better to start the sync chain from your desktop and then add your mobile devices.

I did not do it that way because I was stuck without Sync on my desktop until I discovered I had to enable it.

The net result, is that the BOOKMARKS file of BB iOS, cannot be relied upon, to be READ WRITE -able, and STRUCTURALLY SOLID . . . in the event of a Sync process being generated . . . from iOS device to desktop computer . . . that the Sync would then succeed.

But, a Bookmarks file of BB iOS with hundreds (and esp. thousands) of entries - including dozens (or hundreds) of folders AND SUB-FOLDERS . . . just might be one of the causes for the long-suffering Sync issue / problem / troubles: iOS device to desktop computer.

In the case of BB iOS Sync, choose the desktop or laptop computer, as the home nest for Bookmarks: Make sure that you approve of its (the home nest) Bookmarks. Export a copy of those Bookmarks. Save an extra copy to some external drive(s).

It is not obvious from the docs how to synchronize my desktop app with my mobile app. Note that I don't use any external cloud provider or service like Evernote, just installed Joplin in both desktop and mobile, added some notes in desktop and want to test syncing with mobile. Is this possible to do directly via the app or do I need to use an external cloud provider to host the data so it can be synced across devices?

I do this using OneDrive. I set it up by going to Tools|Options|Synchronisation.

I selected OneDrive because I already have an account. There are several options a few of them are free.

Then I just went through the Synchronization Wizard, which authorizes Joplin to use my OneDrive files. These files synch with a OneDrive folder it creates called Apps|Joplin.

I then downloaded Joplin onto my Android phone and tablets, in the "Three Dashes" menu of the Android app, upper left, I went to "Configuration" then Synchronization, and set up OneDrive there. More authorization to be done, cha cha. ( I had to tap the "Save" icon at the top so it would save the settings. I kept missing that part).

I went to the three dashes menu again and tapped "synchronize" at the bottom.

I also set up other Windows computers by going through the steps in the first few paragraphs.
