Welcome to Pinetown Boys’ High School, where we go Bravely Into All Things . It is both a privilege and a personal calling to serve as the Principal of this proud institution. Within the many decades in the teaching profession, I have witnessed, time and again, the power of education to transform lives. It is this unwavering belief that potential lies within every young man that drives our mission at Pinetown Boys’ High School. Here, we do more than educate; we shape character, build resilience, and instil purpose. We take in ordinary boys, often unsure of what lies ahead, and through structure, mentorship, and opportunity, we groom them into Fine Young Gentlemen young men of distinction, discipline, and vision. Guided by our school motto, Fortiter in Omne (Bravely Into All Things), we encourage our learners to approach every challenge academic, sporting, cultural, or personal with courage, integrity, and an open mind. We equip them not only with knowledge but with the confidence to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Pinetown Boys’ High School is a well-resourced, forward-looking school that honours tradition while embracing innovation. Our dedicated educators work tirelessly to ensure that every learner is seen, supported, and stretched that no boy’s strength goes unnoticed, and no dream is dismissed. We believe in empowering the powerless and awakening possibility in each individual. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or through leadership and service, our boys are constantly challenged to grow to find their strengths and use them as a foundation for future careers, personal excellence, and meaningful contributions to the world. This platform is an open door into our school community a space to explore who we are, what we value, and the many ways in which Pinetown Boys’ High continues to inspire excellence, courage, and brotherhood. HISTORY
HISTORY
Pinetown High School was founded in 1955 as a co-educational, dual-medium school. It was sited at the present location of Pinetown Girls' High School in Old Main Road (now Josiah Gumede road) with 120 pupils in Standard 6 and 7 and a staff of 14 under the leadership of Mr. H. E. Wiese, the first headmaster. The badge includes the letters PHS (Pinetown High School), a crown which represents the period when South Africa was part of the British Empire, three pine cones honouring Sir Benjamin Pine, who was instrumental in developing Pinetown when it was still a village, and a book which stands for education.
In 1978, Pinetown High School went from co-ed to two separate schools, Pinetown Boys' High School and Pinetown Girls High School. The school has gained a first place in the Natal Matriculation Examinations and has had pupils in the top 30 twenty two times in 25 years. A large number of pupils have gained KwaZulu-Natal, and national colours.
