Our curriculum
The Foundation Stage Curriculum is organised into 7 areas of learning:
● Personal, Social and Emotional Development
● Communication and Language
● Literacy
● Maths
● Understanding the World
● Expressive Arts and Design
● Physical Development
This provides a framework for which to plan the curriculum throughout the Reception year. The Foundation Stage provides wonderful opportunities to teach the curriculum in creative ways; tailoring activities to the needs and abilities of each individual child, offering suitable amounts of support and challenge to help all the children make the maximum amount of progress.
Our curriculum is child-centred where learning is personalised to the needs and interests of the children. We provide meaningful experiences which engage children and support them to be creative, curious and to develop a love of learning. We love learning through purposeful play and exploring ideas together.
In Reception, we place a big emphasis on early literacy and numeracy skills. Everyday your child will participate in phonics sessions where they will learn letters and sounds and early reading skills. We follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. When your child is ready, they will be given a reading book, some tricky words to learn and a book to read for pleasure from our class library. On our school website, we have a class page where there will be an overview of what we are learning each half term and our curriculum goals.
