Some students borrow school owned instruments. Hilltop has a limited number of district owned instruments. While all students who request an instrument will receive an instrument, students might not get their first choice. School instruments might not be pretty, but they work.
School instruments are assigned in playing condition. They have been checked and repaired as necessary by an instrument technician over the summer. Those who borrow school instruments are responsible to pay for all repairs needed during the school year. If the instrument suddenly doesn't work, bring it to your band teacher, who might be able to fix it. If not, we will send it in for repairs.
Students and parents sign a loan agreement form when the instrument is assigned to the student at the beginning of the course and a separate one for the summer if the student chooses to check their instrument out for the break.
These are excellent stores for renting and purchasing instruments. Yamaha Brand is recommended for most instruments. While it is tempting (cheap) to buy an instrument from Craigslist, eBay, and other online selling sites it is not recommended. It is easy to accidentally buy an instrument that will not suit your student's needs for school and then you will be out of the money you could have used for a quality instrument.
See the Music Stores section for places to rent/buy an instrument from.
If you are renting/buying an instrument from a music store, ask for a contract which includes repair coverage.
