Hsu's Lab
Welcome to Professor Pi-Sui Hsu's Research Laboratory
We are a team of passionate researchers conducting transdisciplinary studies at the intersection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and emerging technology at Northern Illinois University. Under the leadership of Dr. Pi-Sui Hsu, our lab has established partnerships with the Rockford, West Aurora, Sycamore, Downers Grove, and Butler Public School Districts in the U.S., as well as the National University of Tainan Affiliated Primary School in Taiwan and the City of Rockford in Illinois, U.S. These partnerships ensure that our research meaningfully impacts teachers, students, and the broader community.
Our research explores how technology can be integrated to support middle school students in developing scientific argumentation skills across both formal and informal science learning environments.
We design and study computer-supported collaborative learning environments that help teachers teach scientific argumentation and support students in developing these skills.
We design STEM curricula that incorporate emerging technology, such as Virtual Reality (VR), robotics sensors, and Maker tools like 3D printers, to research their impact on student learning.
