Hsu's Lab

Welcome to the Research Laboratory of Professor Pi-Sui Hsu

We are a group of passionate researchers who conduct transdisciplinary research on the intersection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and emerging technology at Northern Illinois University. Dr. Hsu has established partnerships with the Rockford Public School District, Downers Grove Public School District, and Butler Public School District in the U.S. as well as the National University of Tainan Affiliated Primary School in Taiwan, and the City of Rockford in Illinois, US, to ensure that our research makes an impact on teachers, students, and our community.

Scientific Argumentation

We study ways to integrate technology to support middle school students' development of scientific argumentation in formal and informal science learning contexts.

Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning

We develop and research computer-supported collaborative learning environments to support teachers' teaching about scientific argumentation and students' learning about scientific argumentation.

Emerging Technology

We develop STEM curricula that integrate a variety of emerging technology such as Virtual Reality (VR), robotics sensors, and/or Making tools (3D printers) to research their impact on student learning.
