Dr. Jayan Jose Thomas is a Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. His research deals with various issues related to development, mainly labour, industrialization and the macroeconomy. He teaches courses on macroeconomics, Indian economic development, international economics, and planning and development. Jayan is a former Member of the Kerala State Planning Board. While India has been the primary focus of his research, Dr. Jayan has been maintaining a lively academic interest on China and East Asia as well. He has worked extensively using Indian and international data sources, conducted field studies, and also worked with archival material. His research papers have appeared in journals including World Development, Development and Change and Economic and Political Weekly. He contributes regularly to media outlets, including the Hindu, Frontline , and Livemint, and his research has been cited in the Government of India’s Economic Survey, BBC, and the New York Times .
Associate Professor, South Asian University
Dr. Shweta Singh is an Associate Professor of International Relations at the South Asian University (New Delhi, India). Her research broadly focuses on feminist international relations , critical peace and conflict studies, gender and populism and WPS agenda in South Asia. Her most recent publication is the edited book titled, Mapping Feminist International Relations in South Asia: Past and Present (with Amena Mohsin). Besides, she has published extensively in high ranking journals like, International Affairs, International Feminist Journal of Politics, International Studies Perspective, Contemporary Politics. Shweta has been the recipient of many prestigious International Awards and Fellowships, and has led collaborative projects with UN Women, UNESCO-MGIEP, besides being part of various Track II Civil society networks for building bridges across borders in South Asia.
Assistant Professor, Central University of Kashmir
Dr. Khalid Wasim Hassan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics and Governance, which is housed in the School of Social Sciences of the Central University of Kashmir, India. He has also taught at the P.G Department of Political Science of St.Josephs College, Bangalore (2012-13) and School of Undergraduate Studies of Ambekar University Delhi. His research focuses on political violence, gender & public spaces and intersectionality in South Asia. Dr. Hassan visited South Asian Institute, SOAS on Charles Wallace Fellowship in 2017 and Sidney Sussex College of the University of Cambridge in 2018 on visiting fellowship respectively. In 2024-25, he completed his research fellowship at Institute of Advanced Studies, University of Edinburgh, where he completed his book ‘Identity, Dispossession and Resilience: A Study of Subaltern Communities in Kashmir’ published by Routledge International.
Associate Professor, South Asian University
Dr. Mallika Shakya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at South Asian University. She was trained in LSE, University of Oxford and University of Glasgow. She works on two distinct themes: (i) social embedding of industrialisation and labour movements, and (ii) poetic imaginations of nation and border in South Asia. Her book “Death of an Industry: The Cultural Politics of Garment Manufacturing during the Maoist Revolution in Nepal” was published by Cambridge University Press in 2018 and is listed as one of the 100 all-time-classics on Nepal. Her writings have been published in leading academic journals focusing on economic anthropology and South Asian studies. She currently serves as the Editor-In-Charge of Society and Culture in South Asia (SCSA). She also serves in the editorial committees of Dialectical Anthropology (DA), European Bulletin of Himalayan Research (EBHR) and the Human Economy book series (Berghahn Books). She periodically appears in mainstream visual and print media in Nepal and India speaking on social inclusion and justice as well as reciting her poems in Nepali. She pursues interdisciplinary research methods and has been collaborating with poets and fiction- writers, film-makers and artists, and medical professionals especially in her research on the borders within South Asia.
Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University
Dr. Srikanth Kondapalli is Professor in Chinese Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is Dean of School of International Studies, JNU from 2022-24. He was Chairman of the Centre for East Asian Studies, SIS, JNU from 2008-10, 2012-14, 2016-18, 2018-20 and in 2022. He is Chair Professor under the Chair of Excellence of Ministry of Defence in 2022 to 2024. He is educated in Chinese studies in India and China with a Ph.D. in Chinese Studies. He learnt Chinese language at Beijing Language & Culture University and was a post-Doctoral Visiting Fellow at People’s University, Beijing from 1996-98. He was a Visiting Professor at National Chengchi University, Taipei in 2004, a Visiting Fellow at China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, Beijing in May 2007, an Honorary Professor at Shandong University, Jinan in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2025; at Jilin University, Changchun in 2014 and at Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Kunming in 2016 and 2017, a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at People’s University since 2014 and a Fellow at Salzburg Global Seminar in 2010. He wrote two books:

He wrote two monographs, and co-edited six volumes:

He wrote number of articles in journals and edited volumes – all on China. He served MP-IDSA for 12 years and received the K.Subramanyam Award in 2010 for Excellence in Research in Strategic and Security Studies. He is a guest faculty at Indian armed forces units, including at the National Defence College, Army War College, College of Air Warfare, College of Naval Warfare, and College of Defence Management, in addition to ITBP, BSF, Internal Security Academy and National Police Academy. He is a distinguished fellow at several think-tanks, including Vivekananda International Foundation and Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. He supervised more than 30 Ph.D. researchers at JNU and is also an academic advisor for Ph.D. researchers at Al Farabi Kazakh National University and Ablai Khan University at Almaty and Tamkhang University (Taipei). He was the Editor of JNU SIS International Studies Journal (being published by the Sage).
Professor, Central University of Jammu
Manickam Venkataraman is currently Professor in the Department of National Security Studies at the Central University of Jammu. Previously, he served as Associate Professor at the Centre for Indo-Pacific Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, from 2023 to 2025. Prior to this, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies from 2014 to 2023.
Dr. Venkataraman has also spent approximately 15 years teaching and conducting research in Africa, most recently serving as Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, from 2004 to 2014. He has held several international academic appointments, including Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore, and in Malaysia in 1995, and Visiting Professor in the Department of History and International Relations at Universidad de las Américas Puebla, Mexico, during the summer of 2005. He has travelled extensively across Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia for academic and professional engagements.
Dr. Venkataraman received his professional training in Defence and Strategic Studies and International Relations. He graduated from the University of Madras in 1989 and obtained his PhD from the Centre for South and Southeast Asian Studies in 1997, specializing in ASEAN–China relations. He has approximately 29 years of teaching and research experience and has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals.
His research interests include foreign policy and security studies, peace and conflict studies, and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Dr. Ekta Manhas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of National Security Studies at the Central University of Jammu. She holds a PhD from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her teaching and research focus on India and Global Governance, India’s Foreign Policy, Contemporary Security Challenges, Border Security Management, and South Asian and West Asian Geopolitics.
