The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu is organising a Two-Day National Conference (in-person/offline) titled "Geopolitics, Borderlands, and Soft Power: India's Foreign Policy and Regional Dynamics in a Changing World" Scheduled for October 09 & 10, 2026, at the IIT Jammu Main Campus, this conference seeks to examine the critical intersection of high-level strategic statecraft, borderland realities, and international relations. As the global political landscape fractures into new multilateral alignments, India's strategic responses—ranging from neighbourhood diplomacy to the projection of soft power—require rigorous, interdisciplinary assessment. This conference serves as an essential nexus for academic researchers, strategic analysts, social scientists, and policymakers to dissect these transformations. By centering the discussion within the unique geopolitical environment of Jammu and Kashmir, the event bridges the gap between macro-level foreign policy formulations and micro-level regional implementations. Over two days, the conference will feature plenary sessions, expert panel discussions, and parallel paper presentations across four specialized themes, culminating in a data-driven policy brief aimed at national and regional governing bodies.
The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was inaugurated on 6th August 2016. IIT Jammu is recognized as an “Institute of National Importance” under the “Institutes of Technology Act” of 1961. IIT is an autonomous public higher education Institute funded by the Government of India, and functions under the governance of the IIT Council. At IIT Jammu, we're dedicated to solving global challenges with technical interventions that are humanistic, creative, and futuristic. Our distinctive culture fosters an intellectually stimulating, collaborative, and creative atmosphere, empowering individuals through mutual respect and self-motivation.
The Indian Council of World Affairs was established in 1943 by a group of Indian intellectuals as a think tank. It was registered as a non-official, non-political and non-profit organisation under the Registration of Societies Act 1860. By an Act of Parliament in 2001, the Indian Council of World Affairs has been declared an institution of national importance. The Vice President of India is the ex-officio President of ICWA.
It is devoted exclusively for the study of international relations and foreign affairs. Historic international conferences like 'Asian Relations Conference' in 1947 under the leadership of freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu and 'United Nations and the New World Order' in 1994 have been held by this think tank in which world renowned dignitaries addressed huge gatherings of intellectuals. Scores of conferences, meetings and panel discussions have been organised by the Council in its elegant building called "Sapru House".
