Dr. Eva Fernández is Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success at Queens College. She leads initiatives that enhance student success through teaching excellence, evidence-based learning supports, experiential education, and data-driven decision making. Her portfolio includes the Academic Support Center; the Center for Career Engagement and Internships; the Center for Ethnic, Racial, and Religious Understanding; the CUNY Service Corps at Queens College; the Freshman-Year Experience Program; and Honors and Scholarships. Dr. Fernández is Project Director of STEM Bridges Across Eastern Queens, and is also the Primary Investigator of An Interdisciplinary Design Program: Incorporating Design Thinking to Enhance Undergraduate STEM Education, a five-year collaboration with the New York Hall of Science, designed to improve undergraduate student interest in science and retention in STEM through courses enriched with project-based learning activities that introduce students to making and design thinking. Dr. Fernández received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and German from New York University (1991), and a Master of Arts (1995) and a Ph.D. (2000) in Linguistics from the CUNY Graduate Center. She joined the Department of Linguistics & Communication Disorders at Queens College in 2000, and has faculty appointments at the CUNY Graduate Center in the PhD Programs in Linguistics; Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Cultures; and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences.
