Home of the Melfort Community Arts & Youth Hub
Located in the Historic Post Office, the hub serves as a shared space for community programming, creative initiatives, and youth engagement. Through the collective work of MAC , MYE, and YMC, we provide accessible programs, events, and opportunities that support learning, creativity, and community well‑being.
Our mission is to offer a welcoming, inclusive environment where people of all ages can participate and thrive.
The Historic Post Office (HPO), built circa 1912, is a Romanesque Revival‑style landmark that once played a central role in the social and cultural life of Melfort. As one of the few remaining early 20th‑century public buildings of its kind in Western Canada, it reflects the ambition and optimism of the community’s early growth. In 2012, City Council designated the Historic Post Office as a municipal heritage property.
Over a two‑year period, three local non‑profit organizations worked collaboratively with the City of Melfort to secure a shared lease for the building’s main floor, the only portion currently suitable for public use. The lease was finalized in October 2025, marking a significant step in reactivating the space for community benefit. Today, the organizations steward the main floor as a shared hub for arts, youth, and non‑profit programming, while other areas of the building remain in need of rehabilitation.
The Historic Post Office is managed through a collaborative partnership between three local non‑profit organizations: the Melfort Arts Council (MAC), Melfort Youth Evolution (MYE), and Youth Matter Council (YMC).
Together, the organizations share responsibility for stewarding the main floor of the building, coordinating programming, and ensuring the space is used in a way that aligns with community priorities. Decision‑making is guided by collaboration, shared accountability, and respect for the building as a public heritage space.
The partners of the Historic Post Office are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. Accessibility is considered in how the space is programmed, scheduled, and reviewed for use.
The main floor of the building is currently the only area available for public programming. If you have specific accessibility needs or questions about whether the space may be suitable for your activity, we encourage you to contact us in advance so we can provide information and discuss possible accommodations.
When not in use for community programming, the main floor of the Historic Post Office may be available for limited rentals and community use. Rental requests are reviewed by the partner organizations to ensure suitability, availability, and alignment with the shared use of the space.
Information about availability, rental rates, and how to submit a booking request can be found on the Rent the HPO page.
