Standard: Students solidify their understanding of concepts covered in their previous Latin classes, and move on to more complex aspects of Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. As the year progresses, students read more authentic Latin and discuss concepts beyond the language itself, such as style, literary genre, and the historical and cultural contexts of the works.
PAP: Students briefly review and reinforce material from previous Latin classes, and quickly move on to learning and mastering higher-level concepts in Latin grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. Heavy emphasis is placed on literal translation and comprehension of authentic Latin authors such as Vergil, Caesar, Catullus, Cicero, Ovid, and others.
Standard: Latin IV is a project-based learning course meant to review material covered in the first three years of Latin and allow students to pursue their own areas of further interest in the Language, History, Culture, Mythology, and all other aspects of the Ancient Romans.
AP: AP Latin IV introduces the student to the original Latin texts of Caesar’s De Bello Gallico and of Vergil’s epic, the Aeneid. Students will learn to translate, as literally as possible, all the Latin passages prescribed in the new AP Latin Course Description.
A course designed for students who have completed Latin IV AP and wish to continue their reading and study of authentic Latin texts. The selections are meant to represent some of the finest examples of Latin prose and poetry, primarily from the Late Republic and Augustan periods.
