Quidditch is an extracurricular activity that changes every term. As an extracurricular activity, it is a totally optional House Cup activity. Each term has a different theme, and each Quidditch Match within the term will reflect that theme.
Everything you need to know is explained here, supplemented, of course, by the theme and rules of play for the current term.
Every student is a Chaser and encouraged to participate in all aspects of Quidditch.
NQFYs and SoSs may play Quidditch. However, as with Detention, Advanced Studies, and the Headmistress Challenge, Quidditch scores do not count for Sorting Priority.
As noted in the Community Rules, projects turned in for Quidditch must be started and finished within the timeframe of the match. Partial projects are not accepted. Please see the House Cup rules for what counts as finished. Also, a project may be used for points in a class, Quidditch, Advanced Studies, or Headmistress Challenges only once!
Read the prompt for each Quidditch Match for specific requirements for that Match.
Headers for turn-in posts are included in the thread for each Match.
Turn-in posts may not be edited after being graded or after the end of the Match unless a Quidditch Referee expressly asks the student to do so.
Questions about Quidditch in general, or any specific Match, may be asked either in your House Quidditch thread (a.k.a. Locker Room) or in the relevant Match thread. The Referees will also create an FAQ post for a specific Match, where helpful.
Each Quidditch Match score will earn points for your House. The base points will vary by length of Match and complexity. Scores for some Matches may also earn yardage points or "awesomeness" bonus points, which are awarded by the Referees at their discretion. The number of base points and the availability of awesomeness points will be announced at the beginning of each Match.
When you play Quidditch, you play as part of a House team. The Quidditch Cup is awarded at the End of Term Feast to the House scoring the highest number of points in Quidditch.
Every student is a Chaser, but you may also hold another position on your House's Quidditch team. Joining your House’s Quidditch team in this way is a commitment of time and energy for the whole term. In addition to the details listed below, all House Quidditch team members are expected to assist in the House Quidditch threads and help the Captain as needed. Anyone interested in filling a House Quidditch team position should contact their Quidditch Captain or Head of House. The Head of House recruits the team shortly before the beginning of the term, and Captains must have their team roster presented to the Quidditch Pitch by a specific date shortly after the start of the term.
Students who hold positions on their House's Quidditch team (other than Chaser) are awarded 15 points at the end of the term for their time and efforts. If a student serves only part of the term, the points will be prorated between them and their replacements. Students who do not participate after committing to a position will have points pro-rated based on participation at the discretion of the Head Quidditch Referee.
Captain: Captains are responsible for helping students who want to play Quidditch understand the rules and find their way to the pitch. Captains also work with their Head of House to define, name, and staff three other House Quidditch team positions, and then report to the Head Quidditch Referee at the end of term about whether those jobs were done. Captains monitor the House Cup Quidditch threads and inform their teams of any announcements, changes, or other pertinent information posted there. Captains maintain a Quidditch thread in their House groups.
Three other House Quidditch Team positions are defined, named, and staffed by the Captain (with the assistance of their House staffs.) These team members are responsible for helping their House's Chasers score during the Quidditch matches. Captains are encouraged to use the words "Beater", "Seeker", and "Keeper" in these position names.
Alternate: Each House team may have alternates who are willing and able to step in and help their House team if a member of their team not be able to fulfill their duties. Alternates will not receive points unless called upon for substitution. Substitution of alternates must be declared by the House Captain in the House Cup Quidditch thread. In the event that the House Captain is the player being replaced, the Head of House must post in the Quidditch thread.
Chasers: Everyone is a Chaser! Yes, that means you! Chasers make awesome projects following the prompt in each Match thread. Chasers are invited to participate in any and all parts of Quidditch! Any questions you might have can be asked in the Match thread or in your House Quidditch Thread.
