Advanced studies is where one can earn points for large or long-term projects. When considering pursuing Advanced Studies, remember that all that is required of you as a student is to complete one Class per month. Everyone wants to score well for their Houses, but the Advanced Studies areas were each designed with those longer term projects in mind. A DRAGON should take more than 8 months and up to a year, an OWL is expected to be 2-3 months of work, a Mission is expected to require 5-8 weeks, and a NEWT is expected to take 12-16 weeks of work and really be a stretch. Just because a person wants to participate everywhere can not be a reason to propose an OWL, Mission, or NEWT that will not require that extra time to do.
