I've looked through the various posts over the years that have covered this and similar printing questions, but I'm uncertain whether things have changed (I recently switched from using a MS PC to a Mac), but I used to do all my photo printing from Adobe Photoshop Elements and short of buying this again for use on my Mac, I can't seem to find a simple way of creating and printing 45 x 35 mm photos (UK Passport size) from images I've stored on my "Photos for Mac". I can see there are "create" options provided by Apple via preferred App suppliers, but I'm not that keen on buying these services when I'm sure there is a solution to be found in my Mac. Anyone out there got any suggestions??

HI Old Toad, Thanks for your continued interest and support for a Mac newbie. In the interim I have found a work around. I found that if I replicated the image I wanted for the Passport photo 5 times in "Photos for Mac" (so I had 6 images of the same mug shot) and then selected all of them to print in the "contact print" format option, but chose the 4x6 photo paper option for the paper media / size option. I then modified the margin sizes around the image such that all 6 images were on the same page and printed.

The printed results were images that were 48 x 35 mm in size - so slicing 3 mm off the bottom of each image got me 6 useable Passport size photos. Bit of a faff, but I won't have to do it again for a while. In meantime I'm looking at a PSE subscription as I was obviously expecting too much from Photo's for Mac.

The answer I found here was helpful if you have photoshop installed which I don't. So I did another google serach & found several apps that take passport photos. They automatically put 6- 2"x2" photos on a 4x6 format that you can print easily or send it to a store to be printed for change. This is a much easier solution.

I made the self portrait and edited it down to the required 2 inch by 2 inch size. However, when I tried to print the picture from my Windows 7 computer, the computer automatically re-sizes the picture. I also tried the contact sheet printing option, but that isn't large enough. If you are printing through Windows Photo Viewer, you won't get the proper size you want. Alternatively, many people use Photoshop for this task. If you don't have it, insert the image in Word or PowerPoint and set the size if you have to.

They are TOTALLY acceptable. The old rules about laminating and being able to withstand the heat of laminating no longer apply since they do not laminate the photo you submit into the passport. For the past year or so they actually scan your photo and print in on the same page as the rest of the information. Then the whole thing that THEY print is overlayed with a hologram, etc.

The only caveat is than there must not be any visible ink dots. However, with almost any camera printing to such a small size (you only really need 6 a photo thats 600 x 600 ppi) this should not be too hard.

Also, any photo that you take at home for this purpose will be 100 times better than the crappy shots taken at the passport photo places for $8 to $10 a pair. Walgreens, where I went first, really is bad. Ritz uses a digital camera and inkjet prints a page of eight or so (don't know their price). In order to get the correct head size for kids pix, the "photographer" needs to stand closer than for an adult. The flash, however, is setup for the "adult" distance so kids photos come out over exposed and washed out. Forget it!
