After upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, my Deskjet 1000 J110 Series printer is not recognized. Download of full function software or basic driver did not resolve the problem. Is this model supported at all for Windows10?

Please fix the link so I can find out how have recognized that my system (Win 10 x64, i7 @ 4.09 GHz, 16 G RAM, 1 G VRAM, 450 G HD) is more than adequate to use the HP Deskjet 1000 I am trying to install. I don't have the money for a new, more up-to-date printer, so I would like to think that there is a way to use the one I have with my PC.

If it is not a newly produced printer (that may require an updated hplip driver), I think that you can install hp-lip from the Softare Center..if you search for Hp, it should show you the hplip driver and you can install it from there without any problem..tha version is3.10.2-2ubuntu2.2.. If it is a newly produced printer or if it doesn't work with the previous step, maybe you should try adding this ppa ppa:hplip-isv/ppa that installs the hplip version 3.11.1-0ubuntu2~ppa1..to make this write from the terminal:

I need to make a batch file that will query Windows and provide me the Driver Name of all printers installed, and if a specific driver name is present on the machine, perform another action (in this case run a command-line utility that will change the printer's preferences).
Essentially, I cobbled this together just as a test to have a message display in CMD if it finds any one of three specific Driver Names of printers. I will eventually replace the echo with some other operation, assuming I can get it to work. What I think is supposed to happen is that the batch file will grab all printer driver names and populate them into a .txt file (this part is working fine). Then, the batch file will loop and look inside the .txt file and, using space as a delimeter, find the specific printer models I'm looking for and display the echo. As it stands, if I run this batch file, it will create the .txt file, but then will exit without displaying any messages. I've looked in the .txt file and one of the printers is in the file, for example "HP DeskJet 1000". In case you're curious, I'm skipping line 1 because it just says "DriverName".

The point of my post though was (mostly to express my frustration with HP) to show how bad this HP printer software is when compared to simply installing a driver. I could have expressed this better, but based on what many others are saying, my feelings of frustration seemed to be shared by others with different experiences relating to similar issues with HP Printers. This is what I do... I download the universal drivers say for the m600 series.. It should be an .exe.. Download it, then extract it or run the program and it should extract a file under c:/hp_printer_drivers or something to that extent(It will tell you where it extracts, so pay attention). Then after that go to start -> add printer and then depending on if it's a network printer or hardwired, pick either one. It should detect it and then it gives you an option to install from a list of printers recognized in the last windows update or "have disk" -> choose the "have disk" option -> browse -> and then go to your c:/ directory where you just installed the file.. Usually the universal print drivers come with several series printers drivers you can choose from. The m600 series in my case was at the top of the directory.
EDIT 5: From redditer u/cbtboss**.** I have seen many others suggest 7zip, but here is how he uses it: "One other solution I often use is I download the driver. Then extract the exe using 7zip. Then there will be a folder with the inf file that you can use for manually installing/adding the printer."

As many have no doubt pointed out, this printer does not support PCL or PS languages (look under network protocols), so "just a driver" is going to be hard to find. The printer basically lacks a brain and literally needs your PC to instruct it how to put the ink where it needs to go, which necessitates fancier / crappier software. In the future, you can avoid much aggravation when purchasing printers by picking ones that speak "PCL" or "PS" (postscript); these printers have the brains to handle generic printer language representations, and thus drivers are simpler and you can often find universal variants to support your model. Xerox, Canon, HP, Brother, Ricoh all have universal drivers; IMO Xerox (more features) and HP's (simpler) are the best, but they're generally all quite decent.
