2026 Australian Open
Dates: June 5 – 19, 2026
Location: Gold Coast, Queensland
Event Details: Known as the world's biggest and richest bowls festival, this open event allows grassroots bowlers to compete against international elites across 14 host venues.
New Disciplines: The 2026 event expanded to include 18 disciplines, debuting Mixed Pairs, Intellectual Open Singles, and Deaf and Hearing Impaired Open Singles.
Livestreaming: Matches are broadcast on the Bowls Australia YouTube channel.

Dates: October 19 – 23, 2026
Location: Mount Lawley Bowling Club, Western Australia
Event Details: Staged as part of "The Nationals", this event crowns the champions in various disciplines following state and territory qualifying rounds.
2026 Australian Champion of Champions
Dates: October 2 – 4, 2026
Location: North Beach Bowling Club, Western Australia
Event Details: Also part of The Nationals, this tournament features the reigning state champions competing to become the overall national champion.

BOWLER OF THE YEAR
Matthew Gregg from the Howrah Bowls Club was named the Men's Open Bowler of the Year for 2025-26 by Bowls Tasmania South. Well done Matty who is also the current Howrah Open Men's Singles Champion!
South FREE COACHING SESSIONS
Free Bowls South training sessions will be held at our Indoor Centre on Sunday 31 May, from 12 - 3 pm.
It is open to all players - members and non-members, experienced to beginner bowlers.

VALE GRAHAM BRITCLIFFE
It was with a great deal of sadness that we notify you of the passing of Graham Britcliffe on Friday last. Graham was a highly respected member of the Howrah Bowls Club and was a keen participant in not just bowls but many Club activities over the years. Of course, in addition, Graham was a long-standing selector and Chair of Selectors. His opinions on selection were regularly sought after and always highly valued. Our thoughts are with Judy and family at this time as we pass on our deepest sympathies.

The 40th Annual General Meeting of the Howrah Bowls Club Inc will be held on Saturday 16 May 2026 at 10 am Voting commences at 9:15am and finishes at the commencement of meeting (10am) Counters are Sally Ridgeway, Mark Dilger, Lynne McDougall and Paula Hadley. Proxy votes are not allowed, as per the Constitution.

Some sad news - Garry Davis passed away earlier this week. Garry was a long-time member of our Club and well known to many. Gary won the Men's Club Champioship in 2011/12 Our condolences go out to Jill and the family.

AGM
Howrah Bowls Club 2026 Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 16 May 2026, 10am at the Club, followed by awards and presentations for the 2025-2026 season. All details and nomination form link
VISITORS FROM ROBINA
Howrah Bowls Club will be hosting a travelling group of 21 players from Club Robina (on the Gold Coast, Queensland), from 9 to 13 April. There will be 3 days of bowls; Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Sunday 12 April. At this stage we envisage playing 3 games of fours, and 3 games of triples, 12.30 for 1pm.
Catering plans are still to be finalized, but we hope to have a BBQ on one of the days. If you are interested in participating, please add your name to the notice board, under the TV, or respond to this email. Indicate your availability for days if you prefer as well

MEMBERS DOING WELL
Congratulations to Denise who is playing the final of the Bowls South DL Reid Singles, to be played sometime this week. Also, AJ Jenkins is in
the final of the B Grade Singles. Matthew Gregg did well to reach the Semi-Finals of the A Grade Men’s Singles.
We currently have 4 of our premier ladies representing the South in the Statewide Challenge playing in Longford on Tuesday – Rosie Geeves,
Denise Tanner, Bernie Carroll and Anne Mullavey.
Peter Jenkins is also playing in the Men’s Southern team
STATE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over the last 4 days a number of Howrah Bowls Club members have participated in the State Senior Championships, played at Rosny and Buckingham Bowls Club.
A huge congratulations to Denise Tanner and Charon Foster who teamed up with Sue Mann and Lorraine Walker, from Kingborough to win the 2026 State Senior Women's Fours Championship.
Congratulations also to the following ;
Bill Butler and Peter Jenkins, along with Phil Irons (Cremorne) and Greg Fehlberg (Brighton) who were runners up in the 2026 State Senior Men's Fours Championship.
Danny Neal and Peter Jenkins, who advanced to the quarter- finals of the 2026 State Senior Men's Pairs Championship.

LADIES DAY 2025
It was another very successful Ladies Day for our club.
Well done to all the other bowls clubs that attended the day and making it the success it was.
Once again such a successful day would not be possible without the tireless efforts of all our clubs volunteers. Fantastic efforts all.
SOCIAL MONDAY BOWLS
There will NO Monday afternoon social bowls on 22 and 29 December 2025, due to the Indoor Centre being closed for Xmas.
It will resume on 5 January 2026
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Thank you to everyone who has entered the HBC 2026 club championships so far. It is the responsibility of entrants to ensure each round is completed by the required date. If a game is not completed by the required date, your team will be forfeited.
We will try, where possible, to play finals on Fridays or Sundays, coordinating with the teams playing. We will advertise the games for the finals on the notifications, via email and Facebook and encourage members to come along and watch .

THE NATIONALS
The 2025 Nationals on the North West coast of Tasmania has officially concluded after a two week break from our pennant season. Congratulations and well done to Rosie Geeves and Denise Tanner who represented Tasmania in the Australian Senior Sides Championships (State Teams) Tasmania finished strongly in the Women's event, claiming 3rd place !!!

Bowls Tasmania is pleased to announce that Lynne McDougall (pictured) from the Howrah Bowls Club was appointed as its new President following the Annual General Meeting held at Longford on Monday. Congratulations Lynne.
BPL
Congratulations to our Howrah Team for winning the first qualifying BPL tournament at Buckingham Bowls Club on Sunday 25 May. Well done Matthew Gregg , Danny Neal and Peter Jenkins.
TAS State Final – Sunday 28 September – Venue HOWRAH
The BPL cup was established to bring the format of the successful Bowls Premier League event directly to Clubs in the form of a nationwide pathway competition for club players. The competition progresses through Preliminary Rounds, Regional Finals and State Finals culminating with National Finals held during the Bowls Premier League at Club Pine Rivers in QLD in November . Winning team from each state will receive prize money, airfares, accommodation (where appropriate) and free Jack Attack license for their club
New South Wales’ Ettalong has created history by becoming the first team in BPL Cup history to successfully defend the title as Nathan Malloy, Lee Trethowan and Darren Morrison kept a hold on the coveted trophy.
