This year marks my 20th year of teaching at Howell High School. I graduated from Wayne State University with my Masters in the art of teaching Spanish and English. I love to learn about new and engaging methods for teaching Spanish. It is always my goal to make this class your favorite part of your day! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, my pets and anything that has to do with water.
Teaching in Howell since 2001, I grew up in Hartland so I know the area well. After high school, I attended Albion College where I studied Spanish, Political Science, Education, and Public Policy & Service. While at Albion I spent a semester studying in Madrid, Spain. I also hold masters degrees in Educational Technology and Educational Leadership. Outside of school, I coach the Quiz Bowl team, serve as graduation coordinator, lead student trips to Costa Rica, and coach my son's baseball team. ¡Pura vida!
I love teaching! It has been my passion for 29 years. During this time I have taken my students on numerous trips to Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica because I hope to inspire a love of travel and an appreciation of culture. When I am not in my classroom, I enjoy photography, boating, reading, golfing, snowmobiling, and walking. My favorite place is with my husband and three kids at our cabin near Cadillac, Michigan.
My name is Allison Mertz or Sra. Mertz :) This is my 10th year of teaching. Learning Spanish has opened so many doors for me in my life including meeting people from other countries as well as traveling. I look forward to not only sharing these experiences, but also inspiring you to make Spanish a part of your life as well! In my class you can look forward to a lot of games, hands-on activities, and fun readings to help you meet new friends and acquire the language. Outside of teaching, I love spending time with my husband, 2 boys, and my dog. We enjoy skiing, boating, swimming and biking. I also am a yoga instructor and love practicing and teaching it as well!

I have been teaching for 16 years. I have traveled extensively across the world and have taken students abroad. Teaching about Spanish culture is one of my greatest passions. My hobbies include running, cooking, dancing, playing tennis, and traveling. I love spending time with my family on the water.
My name is Anne O'Brien-Stahly, or as my French students call me, Madame O'Brien. After thirty years of teaching, my most recent year is always my favorite. I am passionate about teaching using comprehensible input methods so that students are able to recognize words when they encounter French in different contexts and environments. It is fun for both the students and myself! On a personal note, my husband, two teenagers and I live in the countryside north of Fowlerville. We moved into Livingston county in 2013 and have enjoyed the helpful and generous nature of the community.
I am beginning my 19th year teaching German and World History at Howell High School. I graduated from Howell High in 2002 and am proud to call Howell my home. I attended Alma College and studied abroad in Kassel, Germany during my time there. I also hold a masters degree from Concordia University. When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family, going to zoos, and learning very specific dinosaur trivia from my son.
