To the person who suggested this question was a duplicate - this laptop does not use a synaptic touchpad. When I try to install the drivers for the synaptic touchpad I get an error "Synaptic device not found."

This package includes ASUS' touchpad driver, which enables communication between the touchpad and the operating system, to provide super-smooth and precise fingertip control with multi-touch gesture support.

How To Download Touchpad Driver For Windows 10 Asus

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have TWO laptops Asus Notebook UX306U. Both started to have the issue mid-July 2018, I believe after a windows 10 update. I have tried everything from updating all drivers, BIOS, etc. to factory reset, and still the problem persists.

Thanks @jayeff, finally I fixed the problem by finding a more up to date driver for the touchpad than the one given by asus.com or tech support. It's ridiculous that the driver they offer is obsolete. They gave me v06 when v25 is out...

Great solution. Worked for me! I tried downloading a driver and that did not work. I just followed your BIOS toggle method, and it worked for me! Easy fix. When I first checked the BIOS, it indicated the INternal Pointing Device was Enabled, So I disabled it and restarted. Then I went through the reboot and changed the BIOS the second time to Enabled, and when I restarted my laptop the pointing touchpad worked! You are great!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your post.

Hi everyone! I received a great help here with the installation of Win7 in my new notebook, now I miss a last step and I have everything working. I have to enable the touchpad, which at the moment is completely not working.

Some information: Win 10 shows 4 different HIDs.

Win 7, After a bounch of attempts and drivers, I have a multi-touch Serial IO in HID devices, but this device shows the error "The specified device generates a resource conflict. (Error Code 12)"

Prior to this situation, I had an unknown device called ACPI / Elan1200, but no drivers were accepted / working.

Attached there are the images, much more clear I guess, I hope in some new idea, because I finished them.

Thank you for any help!

Win 10 :

EDIT by Fernando:

Since this is a specific Win7 problem, I have moved this thread into the Win7 Sub-Forum and customized the thread title to open it for all ASUS notebook users, who are searching for a working touchpad driver while running Win7.

Hello Lost_N_BIOS, the exact model of my notebook is Asus VivoBook Pro N580VN-DM017T

The ATK package is installed correclty (downloaded from the respective asus webpage).

I have already tried this driver, it is partially working in Windows 10 (no gestures) but does not works in Win 7, the installer shows "device not connected"

Thanks for your help

"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected". Similar error if I try manual install the INF, "The folder does not contain a compatible driver."

There is no touchscreen, only touchpad. Unfortunately it is also beyond my knowledge, so for the moment I will have to resign myself to using windows 10, and live with it. I will use windows 7 as a second system, unfortunately. Thank you so much for all the help

I checked Windows Update and it offers alot, mostly drivers rather than updates for Windows. I don't recall a touchpad driver update being listed there, and I feel that MS cannot be trusted to correctly install drivers. I do have the drivers from ASUS support site though.

I'm wondering if it's possible to extract just the driver itself from ASUS's package, then slipstream the driver via a standard tool like Dism to the install.wim, so that touchpad functionality is immediately available.

The touchpad and touchscreen are now mysteriously working, I'm not sure what happened. But I'm paranoid that they will stop working again, so I want to add the drivers responsible for these components to the install.wim. All other components work out of the box.

I only know that now the touchpad/touchpad work, but they didn't immediately after install completed. This install has always booted in UEFI, although I did turn on CSM in the BIOS afterwards. Perhaps the drivers were always installed and some unknown event triggered them into working. I can't be sure.

After upgrading to Windows 10 on my ASUS notebook, I faced some issues like the one with the touchpad. So, I decided to update all the drivers and tools to the latest versions.

I wonder if you have the latest bios for Asus N56VZ for windows 10. I upgraded from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 and most things work. However, I cannot duplicate/mirror my laptop screen to external monitor even though I have updated Intel Video Driver and NVidia drivers to the latest. Also, there has been some issues where a specific program hangs. I suspect bios but could not find any update for N56VZ at the Asus Support page and I did not wish to flash a windows 8.1 bios as I read that some people got a BSOD with that.

Will these drivers work with any Asus laptop?

I had tried an in place update to Win10 64 bit from Win7 64 bit but would have freezes and lock ups and boot issues, with my ASUS K72JK notebook. It would also take long to boot into.

I chatted with ASUS on line and they said it sounded like a hardware issue, but it was working fine in Windows 7. They repeated that they felt 10 was not supported as they would have updated the drivers.

I had checked the memory with windows memory diagnostics before the clean install and it was clean and the Sea Tools program said my drive was in good health and chkdsk did not find any issues.

I have returned to Windows 7 via the recovery and two days in, not one lock up. I wonder if an update to Win 10 NOW will keep all the needed drivers.

I know that is not due to drivers. It is some service activated randomly (mostly when a mouse is connected via USB). Try to deactivate all non windows drivers and restart. It last almost one month without issues (but sometimes happens again). Then start in troubleshoot mode and mswindows, deactivate services and reactivate again.

I had an issue with the energy saving mode under win10 after upgrade as well as clean install. Finally, the solution was to install the same bios version for Asus UX303LN again! Thanky you so much for the information on this website, best for solving asus windows 10 issues!

Plenty of users have experienced the issue where the most recent Windows 10 update they performed managed to disable or remove the Asus Touchpad driver from their PC. This can result in a variety of issues for them such as the touchpad not operating properly or even not working at all.

What Windows does is that it probably downloads the default touchpad driver after it fails to download the Asus one which may cause instability if your laptop is manufactured by Asus. What you can do is to uninstall the touchpad drivers currently installed and manually or automatically download the Asus driver.

Alternative: If Windows fails to download the Asus driver completely or if it downloads the wrong touchpad driver again, you will need to uninstall the wrong one again and download the Asus Touchpad driver manually from their website by following the instructions below.

Drivers are the backbone of your system. Even your touchpad has a driver to assist its functionality, meaning that if this driver is damaged or outdated, it might cause issues. To fix the two finger scroll not working in Windows 10, you need to update your touchpad drivers.

The second method is to uninstall all the touchpad drivers and download the Asus touchpad driver. You should notice that you should use a regular mouse and connect it to your laptop before you do the steps because the touchpad driver will be uninstalled completely.
