Group 1

How can we become sustainable?

Countries that worked together and the age groups

Belgium (12) - Danmark (12) - Norge (11) - (England)

Triggers

The students were presented with the third and final letter, in which the people of the future express their immense gratitude at all the aid the students have provided them with.

Hello people from the past,

Takket være jeres gode råd har vi klaret at overleve. Vi har hus, energi, vann og mat, men vil vi være trygge om det skjer en katastrofe ? Wat kunnen we doen in onze vrije tijd? How can we stay fit? Welke kledij is geschikt voor ons leven op het water? And what means of transport should we use? Kan dere hjelpe oss nok en gang?

Fra menneskene i fremtiden

However, now that they were surviving, how would they thrive? How would they become a sustainable community, where people are able to move around and enjoy themselves? What if something goes wrong, living on the water? How should they dress to brave the elements of the sea?

Process: Discover, Develop, Deliver

Discover

How can we become sustainable?

We began by brainstorming the given themes, which were: sport and leisure activities, clothing, transport, and safety, and how to establish a thriving community.

We informed the students that they would be competing against the other participating countries in each of the four categories.

They were separated into 4 groups, and given a category each. They then had to draw and design their products, keeping in mind that they had to be realistic, sustainable, and beneficial to entire communities.

Develop

We proceeded to develop and build their designs with careful consideration in regards to the materials and shapes.

Throughout the design process, they were reminded that their creations had to function in conjunction with the results of the previous two days.

Deliver

In a video call with the partner countries, the pupils pitched their prototypes to each other, taking careful note of whether they coincide with the given task. They also took photos of the items, and posted them into a Padlet.

Following this, they were told to vote online, using the Google Site, for a single team in each of the areas, in order to find the winners of the competition.

International collaboration

Post-phase

Prior to the day, we shared ideas, links, triggers, and useful information using a Padlet.

We also put our translations and more ideas into the Padlet throughout the day, as well as posting onto TweetBeam.

To end the day, we contacted our partner school using a video call to present and judge the products.

We published our Book Creators so that the other teams were able to understand our process and activities.
