"Unite Now" is a phrase I first saw from posters made by SMFA students after the Kent State Shooting in 1970. While making this piece I considered what that phrase means in relation to collective action and what unification could mean or look like in reality. The design of the shirt intends to emulate shirts worn at protests or to display political opinions which are traditionally printed in ways that are fast and easy to replicate. This piece was designed using filet crochet and embroidery which are techniques that are time consuming and difficult to replicate and give the piece a bespoke appearance. These ideas are brought togther on the base of a sourced Ralph Lauren T-shirt, a brand known for its patriotism and role in the fast-fashion industry.

Created for a "non-textile" assignment. 

Organic and asymmetrical, aimed to let the properties of the material shine. Reminiscent of chewed bubble gum and flesh combined with a playful and youthful silhouette. Inspired by Polly Pocket clothing. 

The process of constructing this garment was largely therapeutic where I was able to settle into a rhythm of melting, coloring, forming, manipulating, setting the material and stitching it together. While my hands did the work my mind was able to wander.
