Point me!
Timeline for the 2025 fest:
Prompting: June 14th – June 30th
Claiming: July 5th – September 15th
Works due: September 15th
Posting begins: October 1st
Works will be posted every weekday until all works are posted. No works will be posted at the weekends.
AUctoberfest is an Alternative Universe-focused, prompt-based Snarry Fest. We accept art, fanfics and podfics (or any combination of the three!)
Participants and readers must be at least 18 years of age.
We encourage participants to focus on Snarry and Alternate Universe possibilities (ie. a radically different time period or location, non-magic, outer space etc., or those influenced by other media). Fest works are permitted within the canon universe as long as there's a major divergence from the canon world or storyline.
Please consider the spirit of this fest: imagining the multitude of ways in which Severus and Harry fall in love across all different worlds, timelines and possibilities.
To that end, we request no works be submitted where the only AU element would be considered as "EWE" or "Snape lives", or other minor divergences Snarry fans would expect to see in Snarry fanworks.
If you wish for clarification on any part of the process please email the mods at houseofsnarry@gmail.com or send a DM to the HOS mod Discord account: house_of_snarry. If you're in the House of Snarry Discord server, you may also DM a mod.
Prompting will open on June 14th and close June 30th.
Please read all current prompts before adding your own.
You may leave up to 10 prompts with no obligation to claim.
We allow anonymous prompting and self-prompting. Please note during claims if it is a self-prompt so we can assign the prompt to you.
After you submit a prompt, it will appear on the prompt list.
Prompts have a 500-character limit.
Participants are free to change the details of the prompt. Prompts can be seen as an inspiration and we consider them a starting place for participants to springboard off. This is not a fanworks exchange.
We allow self-prompting and the use of previous years' prompts. All past prompts can be found here.
Claiming opens on July 5th and lasts through to the fest submission date of September 15th.
Things to consider before you claim:
AUctober fest is an AU-focused fest. Please ensure your work will be within the criteria for the fest. We encourage participants to focus on Snarry and Alternate Universe possibilities (ie. a radically different time period or location, non-magic, outer space etc., or those influenced by other media). Fest works are permitted within the canon universe as long as there's a major divergence from the canon world or storyline.

To that end, we request no works be submitted where the only AU element would be considered as "EWE" or "Snape lives", or other minor divergences Snarry fans would expect to see in Snarry fanworks.
The work should not be gen or pre-slash; this is a Snarry-centric fest.
AI-generated work is not permissible in this fest.
Works must be able to stand on their own and make a complete story in their own right.
How and what to claim:
The claim form is located here. Please note that it will not be live before July 5th.
You may claim any prompt from the current year or from previous years (past prompts can be found here). All are numbered by year and by a prompt number. When you claim the prompt you'll need the full prompt number!
Each participant can claim only one prompt at a time. However, once you submit a work you are free, and encouraged, to claim another!
You may submit art, fanfic and podfic for this fest.
The work must contain Snarry in some form; gen work will not be accepted.
The minimum word count for fanfic and podfic is 500 words, with no maximum.
Podficers must have the author's permission to podfic their work. (Either from direct contact or from easily verifiable author permission on their works and/or profile.)
We encourage you to use a beta reader. At a minimum, you must use a spelling and grammar checker. Please feel free to contact the mods if you need help with finding a beta reader.
All works must be tagged accurately for trigger warnings.
Once the mods have received your claim, we will send you either an email or a Discord DM (depending on your communication preferences) verifying your claim.
Do not post your work to other sites before reveals. We will reveal creators once we have posted every work.
If you have self-prompted you do not need to claim, we will have already put your name against your prompt for you and you will receive a confirmation when these go out.
If you are thinking of participating in the fest please do claim a prompt. This is to help us start working on a schedule for the release of the fest works.
You can change your prompt later, or even pick one of our wildcard options if you don't know what you want to write at the moment.
Works are due on September 15th.
Please feel free to contact us if you need any assistance.
Works are due September 15th.
When submitting your fest work:
1. Either email or DM us on Discord (admin account house_of_snarry) with the following template completed with details of your creation:
Title:
AO3 Username:
Prompt:
2. Upload your fic to AO3 (Archive of Our Own).
Set-up your work as normal, adding in all the required fields, such as the tags and characters, just as you would if you were posting outside of a fest.
Where the page asks for co-creators, please add: "HouseOfSnarry"
Please add your work to the collection: "Snarry AUctoberfest 2025 (Snarry_AUctoberfest_2025)" - this is vital to ensure the piece does not go public when you post it.
Tag the work with: Snarry AUctoberfest 2025
Click "Post" to post the work as you would normally. So long you have selected the collection, the work will not go public yet.
Because the work is uploaded in advance and later revealed, if the House of Snarry's AO3 account is not added as a co-creator the mods will not be able to update the publication date on your behalf when the work goes live. Without updating the publication date the work will appear as if backdated. We will remove the House of Snarry's AO3 account as co-creator when reveals are completed.
3. Sit back and relax! Congratulations on completing your work!
Once uploaded (and sorted by the mods) you can check out your work at the Snarry AUctoberfest 2024 | AO3 Collection.
If you're having issues, please get in touch. You can email us or contact a mod on Discord. We like to help you as much as possible to work through any issues.
A limited extension is available if it is very necessary. Works that come in late may be added to the collection regardless of when they're ready. If you cannot make our deadline, however, your work will be posted after the initial anonymous posting period. No work will be left behind just because it came in late, it just won't be posted in the initial anon posting period. The work, however, must be completed. We will not accept WIPs. If you want to write a work as a WIP, please add it to the collection only when it is complete.
So please stay in touch, nothing is too small or bothersome. If you find you later need to back out of the fest, please just let us know you are having to withdraw from this year. There are no penalties and no hard feelings for this, it just makes organising things a bit easier on the mods if they know who to contact and who not to contact.
Thank you,
AUctoberfest mods
