UPDATED WITH 2025 RESULTS AND PICTURES - PRESS RELEASE ADDED 10.12.2025
For 3 days over October 3 thru 5, 2025, the 2025 Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta (HTSR) occurred on the Rappahannock River in Virginia. We had 75 boats register for the 30th year running of the HTSR which was a huge success. Although we had to delay the race a little to pray for more wind, everything worked out. The wind was fair and it was a safe couple of days for all that attended this grand event. From the Happy Hour on Friday night, to the dinner on Saturday, and the closing ceremonies on Sunday, the weather could not have been much better (well, maybe a little more wind). Thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, captains, boat sponsors, vendors, patrons, supporters, contributors, and donors.

The Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta is one of the largest regattas on the Chesapeake Bay and the second-largest Hospice Regatta in the United States. It is co-sponsored each year by the Rappahannock River Yacht Club (rryc.org) and Yankee Point Yacht Club (ypyc.us). Shoreside activities include happy hour, music, meals and awards on the grounds of the Rappahannock River Yacht Club on Carter Creek.
In honor of founder John McConnico for this year’s 30th anniversary, we suspended the design year requirement. The regatta is therefore was open to all mono-hull sailboats that were at least 18 feet long. USCG approved life vest were required to be worn from start to finish to race single-handed.
Called a Turkey Shoot at its inception as it was then held the day after Thanksgiving, it was moved to early October to attract more racers due to warmer weather and separation from a major holiday. The name "Turkey Shoot Regatta" has been retained in part to distinguish this regatta from others also under the umbrella organization-- the National Hospice Regatta Alliance--and this regatta has grown to become one of the largest in the US.
All proceeds go to Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck and Riverside Hospice Agencies.
Note that although Google Maps indicates the RRYC is adjacent to Rappahannock Yachts, however, earlier this year the Rappahannock Yachts business has been sold and is no longer operating.
