Free Form Ratings last updated 4 Mar 2026
We provide ratings for over 25,000 horses running in the UK and Ireland.
The Ratings will usually be published on a weekly basis and, when time allows, we will provide midweek updates and ratings for the days meetings. The banner at the top of the page indicates when the ratings were last updated.
Our ratings are free to download - donations are welcomed to support the cost of maintaining our service.
DAILY FORM RATINGS
When time allows we will provide daily ratings for that days meetings - see example below.
KEY
OR=Official Rating FR= Our Current Form Rating (0-140 Flat 0-170 Nat Hunt)
Form: Race Conditions (Distance & Going) last time and form figures - most recent form to right of sequence
Adj Rtg: Current Form Rating adjusted to reflect weight carried. Top 2 Rated are highlighted GREEN
If weights are not shown then the adjusted rating will reflect how well (or otherwise) a horse is handicapped, or in non-handicaps, will assume all horses are weighed equally, after taking account of weight-for-age. The Adjusted Ratings don't take account of allowances that less experienced Jockeys are given.
Figure in ()'s after horse's name is the number of days since horse achieved current Form Rating - recent form more trustworthy
FORM BYTES are additional form pointers to compliment our Form Ratings
Last 4 Ratings: Ratings achieved in last 4 outings, most recent rating first. These provide an indication of consistency
Going/Course/Distance: Conditions over which best recent rating achieved (Distance shown is in Furlongs)
Orientation: LH denotes preference for Left Handed Course, RH for Right Handed or LH/RH where horse has run to form on both
Track Type on which best form achieved stated as Galloping, Specialist (Sharp/Tight Tracks suiting 'handy' types) or All
Where preferred course type, going or distance are indicated, a horse may run 5lbs+ below current rating if actual conditions differ
For Example, a horse with a preference for All Weather surfaces may run 5lbs or more below its current rating if running on Turf
FR+ Form Rating Plus (Scale 0-30, Higher Better) weighs up Form Rating, Placings, Recency of Form, Consistency & Race Conditions (other than going)

HORSE RACING FORM RATINGS EXPLAINED
Three ratings downloads are available:
· Form Ratings – Chase
· Form Ratings – Hurdle
· Form Ratings – Flat (which covers Turf & All Weather)
Each ratings download covers horses that have raced in the UK and Ireland over the past one to two seasons.
The ratings are computer generated using exclusively developed code and algorithms which consider an initial classification allotted to each race, race times and prior and subsequent form. As such, the ratings are dynamic and will change as form lines evolve.
Analysis of over 17000 races in 2024/25 found that approaching 40% of all races were won by one or other of the top two rated in each race, over 50% of races were won by one or other of the top three rated. One or other of the top two rated were placed in around 70% of races.
The ratings are usually updated a couple of times each week, time allowing.
Horse, Year and Age: The name of the racehorse, its year of birth and current age. All racehorses are considered to turn a year older on the 1st January each year (British Horseracing Authority)
Best Rating: The best rating that the horse has achieved over the period covered by the ratings.
Current Rating: This is the current computer-generated rating that should be used when assessing a horse’s chance in forthcoming races. The rating will be established from the horses four most recent performances, together with its best performance, and will gradually reduce over time if the horse has failed to reproduce the form in its last two runs or has not raced for 1+ years.
DOCR (Date of Current Rating): This is the date on which the current rating was achieved. More recent form is likely to be more trustworthy.
When opening the file, dates may appear as a serial number (starting from 1st January 1990). To fix this, change the cell format (for all cells in column G) to Short-Date or Date. For example, 45864 will then appear as 26/07/2025.
Rating LTO, 2 Races Ago, etc: The ratings achieved by the horse in each of its’ prior 4 races, beginning with the rating achieved last time out (LTO).
This information will allow you to assess how consistent a horse is, and how its recent form compares with its current and best ratings.
Form Figures: Details of the distance (Furlongs) and going last time out together with the horses placings in each of its last four outings – most recent form to right of sequence. For example, LTO: 12(AW) Form: 8750 indicates that the horses last run was over 12 furlongs on an all-weather surface. It was 5th on its penultimate outing and 10th or worse on its last outing.
Going: If the horse has achieved a rating 5+ lbs better on one or more types of surface/going then this preference will be reflected. For example,
Firm – indicates that the horse has achieved form 5+ lbs better on firmer ground than on any other surface
Good – similarly for good ground
Soft – similarly for soft ground
Good/Firmer – indicates that the horse has achieved form 5+ lbs better on good or firmer ground
Good/Softer - indicates that the horse has achieved form 5+ lbs better on good or softer ground
All Going – indicates that the horse has shown comparable form on Firm, Good and Soft ground
Unproven – Insufficient data to deduce a going preference
& AW – indicates that the horse has also achieved form close to its best on all-weather surfaces
(Best AW) – indicates that, whatever turf going preference is stated, the horse has achieved form 5+ lbs better on all-weather surfaces
All Weather – indicates that the horse has only returned recent form ratings on all-weather surfaces.
Best Track: The course on which the horse has achieved its best (recent) form.
Distance: The distance (in Furlongs) over which the horse has achieved its best (recent) form.
Track Orientation: LH denotes a horse has only raced on, or shown a preference (i.e. 5+ lbs better) for, Left-Handed Courses, RH for Right-Handed Courses or LH/RH where horse has achieved comparable form on both
Track Type: Denotes the Track Type on which the horses’ best form has been achieved and is stated as Galloping, Specialist (Sharp/Tight Tracks suiting 'handy' types) or All Types if comparable form has been achieved on both types
USING THE RATINGS
The ratings take account of ‘Weight for Age’ and as such require no further adjustment for age when assessing open age races.
When assessing a horse’s chance in a race, simply adjust the current rating to reflect the weight being carried in the race.
For Flat and All-Weather races, deduct 1lb from the current rating for every lb carried above 10st and add 1lb to the current rating for every lb carried below 10st.
For example, a horse with a current rating of 87, carrying 9st 6lb, is therefore carrying 8lb below 10st, hence add 8lb to the current rating to arrive at an adjusted rating of 87+8=95.
A horse with a current rating of 87, carrying 10st 2lb, is therefore carrying 2lb above 10st, hence deduct 2lb from the current rating to arrive at an adjusted rating of 87-2=85
(For National Hunt – i.e. Chase/Hurdle, races use 12st rather than 10st as the weight around which to adjust the current rating)
