GOAL

• To more actively re-engage in the practice of invitation and retreat, after having shared the space with them for a while.

LESSON

• I understood the importance of valuing each voluntary gesture as an achievement in itself, without asking for more, respecting the horse's pace. When Sofie offered to be brushed, it was an act of trust that I should have reinforced without asking for more. However, when I tried to move her to continue, that flow of connection was broken., something that may have become difficult due to a lack of clarity in how I communicated what I wanted.

• I also learned that insisting when the initiative is no longer coming from the horse can break the connection. By placing the brushes on the ground, I offered a free invitation, but by insisting afterward, I broke that dynamic of choice. A genuine invitation and the horse's consent are worth more than any goal achieved through insistence.

APRENDIZAJE

• Comprendí la importancia de valorar cada gesto voluntario como un logro en sí mismo, sin pedir más, respetando el ritmo del caballo. Cuando Sofie se ofreció para ser cepillada, fue un acto de confianza que debí haber reforzado sin exigirle más. Sin embargo, al intentar moverla para continuar, se rompió ese flujo de conexión, algo que quizás se complicó por la falta de claridad en mi forma de comunicarle lo que quería.

• También aprendí que insistir cuando la iniciativa ya no viene del caballo puede romper la conexión. Al usar los cepillos en el suelo, ofrecí una invitación libre, pero al insistir después, se rompió esa dinámica de elección. La invitación genuina y el consentimiento del caballo valen más que cualquier objetivo alcanzado por insistencia.

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

• The horses appeared calm, and Sofie seemed to be in less pain. Boston approached me, and I let him smell me without touching him. At first, he seemed to be protecting Sofie and wouldn’t let her come closer. Later on, Sofie allowed herself to be brushed on her own initiative, which was a significant step forward in our relationship. However, when I tried to get her to move so I could continue brushing, she disconnected and walked away. Boston, for his part, showed no interest in being brushed or actively engaging in the activity.

• At one point, I tried offering the brushes by placing them on the ground, as a way of inviting them to choose and participate freely. However, Sofie came directly to me and ignored the brushes on the ground. In that moment, I picked up the brushes again and invited her once more. I likely missed the opportunity to follow her emotional rhythm, as it wasn’t her choice to continue the activity. As a result, she got bored and disconnected again.

DESTACADOS DE LA EXPERIENCIA

• Los caballos se mostraron tranquilos y Sofie parecía sentir menos dolor. Boston se acercó y lo dejé que me oliera sin tocarlo. Al principio, parecía estar protegiendo a Sofie y no le permitía acercarse. Más tarde, Sofie aceptó ser cepillada por iniciativa propia, lo que representó un avance importante en nuestra relación. Sin embargo, cuando intenté que se moviera para continuar con el cepillado, se desconectó y se alejó. Boston, por su parte, no mostró interés en ser cepillado ni en participar activamente en esa dinámica.

• En un momento, intenté ofrecer los cepillos dejándolos en el suelo, como forma de invitarlos a elegir y participar de manera libre. Sin embargo, Sofie vino directamente hacia mí y no fue a ninguno de los cepillos. En ese momento, tomé los cepillos nuevamente e insistí con la invitación. Probablemente perdí la oportunidad de seguir su ritmo emocional, ya que no fue ella quien eligió continuar con la actividad. Como resultado, se aburrió y se desconectó otra vez.
