GOAL

• Mainly practice the code of conduct and how to identify the entry point to connect and invite participation.

LESSON

• I felt that taking them to another place strengthened our connection, especially with Sofie, who I think felt more confident and close to me.

• When I put the halter on one of them, I forgot to communicate with the other one who didn’t have a halter, and maybe that’s why they felt forgotten or directionless. So, next time, it might be helpful to keep this in mind, as well as pay extra attention to prevent the horses from getting hurt along the way.

APRENDIZAJE

• Sentí que llevarlos a otro lugar fortaleció nuestra conexión, sobre todo con Sofie, que creo se sintió más confiada y cercana a mí.

• Cuando le puse el cabezal a uno de ellos, me olvidé de comunicarme con el otro que estaba sin cabezal, y tal vez por eso se sintieron olvidados o sin dirección. Así que, quizás la próxima vez, sería útil tener esto en cuenta, además de prestar más atención para evitar que los caballos se lastimen durante el trayecto.

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

• I arrived and spent ten minutes sitting in a chair with them, and they weren’t sleeping. While I was sitting, the cat (Dulce) kept me company for a short while. I told the horses that I was going to take them to another place and that I would be working with Michaela there for a bit. After ten minutes, I got up to greet them, but they didn’t move. Then, Sofie came over to say hello, and while we were there, I tried to practice the entry point, but Boston approached, moved her, and I let them go. At another moment, they passed very close to me, as if testing me: Sofie passed near, and Boston even closer. A couple of times, Boston came so close that I had to touch his belly, as if to say, “I am here in this place.” Still, I felt grateful, thinking, “I know you are teaching me.” When I felt that there was a connection and they were calm, I went to get the halter to take them to another place, with help. I explained that I was going to move them, that I needed their cooperation, and that we should go calmly. I put the halter on Boston; the first time he didn’t want to put it on, but patiently, the second time, without insisting, he accepted it calmly. Everything was going well, but Sofie ran past me while I was leading Boston, very close, almost pressing against me, and then ran ahead. Boston tried to follow her, so I had to let him go and release the lead rope. They ran through the corridor. Later, we went to get the halter again, which was a bit difficult because Boston was in a corner and didn’t want to come out. Also, Tormenta from the neighboring pasture was in heat, and he was close to her. With help, Boston moved back, and I approached to remove the halter, thanking him and saying, “That’s all we wanted,” leaving them there and letting them know I would come back to get them later.

• Later, when we went to get them, Boston didn’t want me to put the halter on him. I waited for him to calm down and tried again, but he didn't want. I stepped back, and at that moment, Sofie came to me, so I decided to put the halter on her. Even though she was very worried, she accepted it calmly. I led her carefully until Boston suddenly ran ahead furiously, and I had to release her as well. Since the gate was closed, they had to stay there. It was a narrow space, so I focused on staying calm and taking care of myself at the same time. I was able to take Sofie again, who accepted it, but Boston ran past me like crazy. I managed to get through the gate, and with help, we got them out. I got Sofie to the corral, but Boston didn’t follow, which made Sofie furious. I removed Sofie’s halter and went to get Boston, but he was eating outside and didn’t want to come in. With help, we managed to bring him back. Once inside, I thanked both of them and stayed with them while they calmed down. I then spent more time with them and connected more with Sofie, although they didn’t want me too close. Every time Sofie tried to approach, Boston moved her. When they went to sleep, I brought a chair and sat with them to keep them company. At first, I tried sitting very close, but I saw they were uncomfortable, so I sat further away. Then I invited the cat (Dulce), who came and stayed with us. The horses slept peacefully, and after a while, I left. Before leaving, I went by them to say goodbye, approached, and kissed each one. They were surprised, and as I walked away, they followed me for a moment but then moved on.

DESTACADOS DE LA EXPERIENCIA

• Llegué y estuve diez minutos sentada en una silla con ellos, que no estaban durmiendo. Mientras estaba sentada, me acompañó la gatita (Dulce) un ratito. Les conté a los caballos que los iba a llevar a otro lugar y que iba a trabajar con Michaela un rato ahí. Luego de los diez minutos, me levanté para saludarlos, y ellos no se movieron. Después, Sofie vino a saludarme, y mientras estábamos ahí, intenté practicar el punto de entrada, pero Boston se acercó, la movió y yo los dejé ir. Hubo otro momento en que pasaron muy cerca de mí, como si me estuvieran testeando: Sofie pasó cerca y Boston aún más. Un par de veces, Boston pasó tan cerca que tuve que tocarlo en su guata, como para decir “aquí estoy yo”. Pero igual les agradecía, pensando “yo sé que ustedes me están enseñando”. Cuando sentí que había conexión y que ellos estaban tranquilos, fui a buscar el cabezal para llevarlos a otro lugar, con ayuda. Les expliqué que los iba a trasladar, que necesitaba su colaboración y que fuéramos con calma. Puse el cabezal en Boston; la primera vez no quiso entrar en él, pero con paciencia, la segunda vez, sin insistir, aceptó tranquilo. Todo iba bien, pero Sofie pasó a mi lado mientras llevaba a Boston, muy cerca de mí, casi apretándome, y luego salió corriendo adelante. Boston quiso ir detrás de ella, y tuve que dejarlo correr y soltar la cuerda. Entraron corriendo por el corredor. Después fuimos a buscar el cabezal nuevamente, lo cual fue un poco difícil, porque Boston estaba en un rincón y no quería salir. Además, Tormenta del pasto vecino estaba en celo y él la estaba abrazando. Con ayuda, Boston se movió hacia atrás y me acerqué para sacar el cabezal, agradeciéndole y diciéndole “era solo eso que queríamos”, dejándolos ahí y avisándoles que volvería a buscarlos en un rato.

• Más tarde, cuando fuimos a buscarlos, Boston no quiso que le pusiera el cabezal. Esperé a que se calmara e intenté nuevamente, pero no quiso. Me retrocedí, y en ese momento Sofie se acercó a mí, así que decidí ponerle el cabezal a ella. Aunque estaba muy preocupada, lo aceptó tranquila. La llevaba con calma, hasta que Boston salió furioso corriendo adelante, y tuve que soltarla también. Como el portón estaba cerrado, tuvieron que quedarse ahí. Era un lugar angosto, así que me concentré en mantenerme calma y cuidarme al mismo tiempo. Pude tomar a Sofie de nuevo, quien lo aceptó, pero Boston pasó corriendo como loco a mi lado. Logré salir por el portón y, con ayuda, los sacamos de ahí. Pude llegar con Sofie hasta el corral, pero Boston no nos acompañó, lo que dejó a Sofie furiosa. Saqué el cabezal de Sofie e intenté buscar a Boston, pero él estaba comiendo afuera y no quería entrar. Con ayuda, logramos traerlo de vuelta. Una vez adentro, les agradecí a ambos y estuve con ellos mientras se calmaban un poco. Después me quedé más tiempo con ellos y conecté más con Sofie, aunque no quisieron que me acercara demasiado. Cada vez que Sofie intentaba acercarse, Boston la movía. Cuando se pusieron a dormir, traje una silla y me senté con ellos para acompañarlos. Primero quise sentarme muy cerca, pero vi que estaban incómodos, así que me senté más lejos. Luego invité a la gatita (Dulce), que vino y se quedó ahí también. Los caballos durmieron tranquilos y, después de un buen rato, me fui. Antes de irme, pasé por ellos para despedirme, me acerqué y les di un beso a cada uno. Se sorprendieron y, mientras me alejaba, me siguieron un momento, pero luego pasaron de largo.
