Even though I was outside the pasture and it was huge, I still felt connected to them, and I felt that they were aware of my presence too.
That day, the horses were in another pasture, and Sofie was in heat. She was standing near the fence, and the neighboring horses would come over to sniff her. Interestingly, most of the time, Boston didn’t intervene and simply kept eating farther away. At other times, he would come closer and join the interaction with the other horses across the fence, but without trying to move Sofie away from there.
That day, I decided to sit outside the paddock and wait for Boston to come over so we could play together through the fence. He spent some time eating near me, but then he got startled by the noise of the lawn mower and went far away, toward the back of the field. I didn’t insist on him coming over.
The only thing I did was go over to greet them a couple of times: once when I arrived and again when I was leaving. Every time I went to greet them, they responded promptly. They even came over to meet me and say hello, which made me happy.
