GOAL

• Letting go of the agenda and paying closer attention to the horses’ state, so that transitions between states can happen more smoothly. Only introducing exercises when there is connection and willingness on their part.

• I noticed that this time Boston did not come to my chair or try to invade my space or access my things. I look forward to seeing if this calmer behavior continues next time.

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

• That day, I didn’t spend much time with Boston and Sofie, as I spent almost the whole day with Michaela because she didn’t want to go back to her paddock.

• I stopped by in the morning to say "Hello" to them, and they both responded to my greeting, Sofie always with her questioning look.

• When I came back in the afternoon to spend some time with them, I was already quite tired that day. Still, I decided to go in and sit with them for a while. As I was coming in with my chair and notebook, Boston came to meet me. He was walking calmly, and when he got closer, I made a little gesture for him to stop, just to see if he would respond. Everything happened so quickly that I’m not even sure whether he responded or not, but what I remember is that we greeted each other, and he seemed to be going back and forth between leaving and coming back, and we had a second in that little moment of hesitation. In the end, I continued on to sit down, and this time he didn’t come and invade my space. I wasn’t sure whether it was because I didn’t have my bag with me that day, or whether something from the previous session had stayed with him, when we had experimented with the bite. I thought it probably had more to do with the previous session than with the bag.

• I only sat there for a little while, and then I went to chat for a bit with someone who was standing by the fence. While I was talking to her, Boston came over and stayed there with me, as if he wanted to be part of the conversation. It was a really lovely moment, when I felt him very close to me. I was gently stroking his warm skin while I talked. He stayed there the whole time, eating near the two of us.

• After that, I just stopped by for a little while to say "Hello" to Sofie, and then I left.

DESTACADOS DE LA EXPERIENCIA

• Ese día no pasé mucho tiempo con Boston y Sofie, pues estuve casi todo el día con Michaela, ya que ella no quería volver a su corral.

• Pasé por la mañana a saludarlos y ambos respondieron a mi saludo, Sofie siempre con su mirada interrogativa.

• Cuando volví en la tarde para estar un rato con ellos, yo ya estaba bastante cansada ese día. Aun así, decidí entrar y sentarme con ellos un rato. Cuando entraba con mi silla y mi cuaderno, Boston vino a encontrarme. Venía tranquilo y, cuando estaba más cerca, hice una especie de señal para que se detuviera, para ver si iba a responder. En realidad, todo pasó tan rápido que no sé si me respondió o no, pero lo que recuerdo es que nos saludamos y él estuvo entre irse y volver, y tuvimos un segundo en ese impasse. Al final, yo seguí para sentarme y, esta vez, él no vino a invadir mi espacio. Yo no estaba segura de si eso había sido porque ese día no estaba con mi bolso o si había quedado algo del aprendizaje de la sesión anterior, en la que habíamos experimentado la mordida. Yo pensaba que probablemente tenía más que ver con la sesión anterior que con el bolso.

• Me senté solo un rato y después fui a conversar un ratito con una persona que estaba en la cerca. Mientras charlaba con ella, Boston vino y se quedó ahí conmigo, como si quisiera participar de la conversación. Fue un momento muy lindo, en el que lo sentí muy cerca. Le hacía cariño en el cuero, que estaba calentito, mientras conversaba. Él se quedó todo el rato ahí, comiendo cerca de nosotras.

• Después de eso, solo pasé un ratito a saludar a Sofie y me fui.
