GOAL

• Try to practice “Come” and “Go” from the fence with both together in the same paddock.

OBJETIVO

• Intentar practicar el “Venir” y “Ir” desde la cerca con los dos juntos en el mismo potrero.

LESSON

• It was so cute to see Boston return to neutral, and I still remember the way he looked at me.

• I wanted to give him the carrot only when he came to me, as a gift, not to reinforce a behavior. Later, when he had calmed down, I did it to help him manage his own emotions.

APRENDIZAJE

• Fue muy lindo ver a Boston volver a neutro, y aún recuerdo la forma en que me miró.

• Quise darle la zanahoria solo cuando él vino a mi, como un regalo, no para reforzar un comportamiento. Luego, cuando se calmara, lo hice para ayudarlo a manejar sus propias emociones.

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

• There was a lot of water in the paddock that day. I tried to go in to greet them, but they kept moving and it was hard to get close to them. So I focused only on the exercise of introducing the reed from the fence, and I left my chair outside. They came over a few times in response to my call, but Boston would leave very quickly and wouldn’t stay, so I couldn’t really practice with him. Sofie came once; I managed to give her a carrot, and when I was about to ask her to move away, Boston came and pushed her off. She tried to come back later, but Boston drove her away from me several times. So in the end, we didn’t get much practice done.

• As I was leaving, after they had positioned themselves to rest for the second time, Boston took a step toward me. With that attitude, I decided to give him a carrot. It was good, because he stretched his head toward my bag, to the point that I had to take a step back. It became a chance to practice waiting for him to return to his center, and it was also nice to see him do that. So I waited, and when he calmed down, I tried to give him the carrot, but he came in too roughly to take it from my hand and it fell to the ground. So I asked him again to relax, and then he was able to take it a bit more gently from my hand. And I left it at that for the day.

DESTACADOS DE LA EXPERIENCIA

• Había mucha agua en el potrero ese día. Intenté entrar a saludarlos, pero ellos se movían y era difícil acceder a ellos. Entonces, me enfoqué solamente en el ejercicio de introducir el bastón desde la cerca, y dejé la silla del lado de afuera. Ellos se acercaron algunas veces, atendiendo a mi llamado, pero Boston se iba muy rápido y no se quedaba, de modo que no alcanzaba a practicar con él. Sofie vino una vez; alcancé a darle una zanahoria y, cuando iba a pedirle que se fuera, Boston vino y la movió. Ella intentó volver después, pero Boston la apartó varias veces de mí. Entonces, al final, no fue mucho lo que practicamos.

• Cuando ya me iba, y ellos se habían puesto a dormir por segunda vez, Boston dio un paso hacia mí. Con esa actitud, decidí darle una zanahoria. Fue bueno, pues estiró su cabeza para alcanzar mi bolso, hasta el punto de que tuve que dar un paso hacia atrás. Entonces fue una oportunidad para practicar esperar a que volviera a su centro, y al mismo tiempo fue lindo verlo hacerlo. Así que esperé y, cuando se calmó, intenté darle la zanahoria, pero vino muy brusco a tomarla de mi mano y se cayó al suelo. Así que le pedí de nuevo que se relajara y ahí sí pudo tomarla de mi mano. Y los dejé con eso ese día.
