Solidarity
We keep us safe, we're stronger as a united community than as individuals
Explore our shared struggle, goals, and interests
Bridge divides across identities and lived experiences
Community Agreements
This is an initial outline, our Community Agreements are meant to be created and upheld by HTU as a collective. Fall meetings will make space to discuss community agreements, priorities, and projects.
Treat others how they wish to be treated: Listen to and learn from each person, don't assume that everyone has the same information, experiences, needs, or wants
Communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully: Be mindful of the impact your words and action have on others
We are all neighbors, leaders, and human beings: No one person or group of people is "in-charge" of others
Ask for help when you need it, offer help when you can: Everyone deserves dignity and respect when seeking support
Pace yourself and find a balance that works for you: We all have different responsibilities, availability, and energy to put into community
Everyone messes up in community, we strive to recognize and repair harm when it happens: No one is expected to be perfect, everyone is expected to take accountability when we hurt others, no matter what our intentions were
What do you need from everyone in HTU to feel safe and supported so that we can work together and fulfill our mission?
Proposed Organizational Structure
This is an initial outline, our Organizational Structure is meant to be created and agreed on by HTU as a collective. Fall meetings will make space to discuss organizational structure, roles, and responsibilities.
There will be references to "leadership roles," which in this context means facilitation and structure not decision making and hierarchy. The goal is to decentralize power -- building a system that values all voices and provides leadership opportunities to everyone.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Tenant/HTU Member (individual adult, 18+, residents): Participate in HTU meetings an activities, join committees, connect with neighbors, holds one "vote" within HTU
Unit (single unit/lease): Holds one "vote" within a tenant’s association/union
Building Representative (2+ people per building): Serves as a point of contact, provides admin support and connects tenants/units from their building to HTU. Commits to providing support for a fixed term (ex. 3-12 months).
Committee Leadership (3+ people per committee): Provides admin and project support, acts as liaisons to the larger HTU group. Commits to providing support for a fixed term (ex. 3-12 months).
Steering Leadership (5+ people): Provides admin and organizational support, connects folks at all levels of engagement. Commits to providing support for a fixed term (ex. 3-12 months).
"Governing" Documents to create, discuss, and vote on over the next few months
