We do Aerations during April, May and June of each year. We can also them in Early September for those yards that truly need it.
Questions and Answers that I get asked about Aerations.
Is lawn aeration necessary? Almost all lawns will benefit from aeration, and a great lawn demands it. That said, most lawns do not need it. Lawns suffering from heavy foot traffic, excessive thatch (>1 inch thick) or grown on heavy soils will benefit most. (ndsu.edu)
What happens if you don't aerate your lawn?
Grass roots grow shallow, causing the grass to dry out and become more susceptible to disease. Footprints remain visible on the lawn after walking. Thatch buildup, which is a layer of dead grass and other organic matter on the surface of the soil. (Qualitycareservices.com)
Why is aeration necessary?
1 Aeration creates holes down into the soil to alleviate compaction so air, water and nutrients can reach grass roots. Deprived of their basic needs by compacted soil, lawn grasses struggle in stressful situations, such as heat and low rainfall, and lose their healthy, rich color.(Pennington lawn and garden)
My yard used to look so good, now its terrible, what can I do?
My response is to them, what have you done to keep your yard looking good? Customer always answers, water, mow, and fertilize sometimes. Unfortunately that does not work. Keeping up with maintaining your yard is just as important as maintaining and keeping up with your home. If you don't, then over time it will deteriorate. Here are my steps that I explain to anyone.
Get on a good mowing program, where you cut often and at the right height for the time.
Water appropriately, Meaning deep water 1-2 times a week in the morning.
Aerate every year.
Top dress every year.
Get a yearly Soil Sample and follow the recommendations for Lime, Sulphur or any other amendments.
Get on a good Fertilizer and Weed control Program that also encompasses lawn bugs, and disease prevention and disease control.
