A Message From Our

Immediate Past President

Being a part of this wonderful organization of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is a privilege; being a part of the Tau Epsilon Zeta chapter is an honor; but being able to serve as President of this chapter was a blessing. During my tenure from 2012-2015, TEZ focused on growth. Taking the chapter from 5 to over 30 members was no easy task, but a reputable one. We set our goals to add and participate in activities on all levels, and so, the work began.

Although in 2015, I exited my term as president early to take on a career promotional opportunity in Washington DC, I remained involved with the chapter as much as possible, until transferring to another graduate chapter in Virginia, where I served as the First Vice President/ Membership Chair and President. Once again, in 2017, I was afforded another career promotional opportunity back to North Carolina, and able to rejoin TEZ, serving as the First Vice President until my second term ended in 2021, increasing the chapter membership by 36, while also serving on the Regional level. I have also served as the Third Vice President, while also fulfilling my elected position on the International level as an International Trustee. In 2022, I was elected again to serve as chapter president.

I became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in the Fall of 1988 on the campus of North Carolina State University, by way of St. Augustine’s College (now University). Although no chapter existed on the campus of NC State, I was blessed to not only be a charter member of the Mu Xi chapter in 1990, but also serve as the chapter’s first president.

I’ve served for over thirty years based on Founder Fannie Pettie Watts’ outlook, “Let no man think to have set his own house in order if he is unmindful of his brother’s wellbeing.” Blessed to be a part, blessed to serve, blessed to lead.

In Service,

Tonya Freeman
Immediate Past Chapter President
