Voices of Courage: Defending Free Speech 10/09/25

Thank you to our powerful and inspiring panelists who educated us about the suppression of free speech happening right here in our communities and gave us practical action items we can do right away to combat this political violence.
Nicholas Ostheimer, President of FAU College Democrats, has been on the front lines of campus protests defending academic freedom and coalition building across universities.
Adam Roberti, Board Member, Broward Young Dems, Executive Director of the Cortada Foundation, is using the power of socially engaged art to inspire civic action and connect communities through creative expression.
Dariel Gomez, a statewide organizer with the ACLU of Florida, is confronting censorship, advocating for immigrant rights, and defending public employees who’ve been punished for speaking out.
Karen J Leader, Associate Professor of art history at Florida Atlantic University. She specializes in modern and contemporary art, intersectional feminist approaches and advocacy for the humanities in higher education. On September 13th, she was placed on administrative leave after a former DeSantis staffer created a viral post of tweets that Dr Leader shared, offering truthful information about Charlie Kirk’s bigotry. She was doxed and has since received death threats.
