I’m interested in becoming a member! What do I do next?
Contact us via E-mail and let us know that you're interested. Please also let us know what instrument(s) you play as well as the years of playing experience that you have. We will then reply to you with more information about the Ensemble, including the best date to come to our rehearsals.
Where and when do you rehearse?
Rehearsals are scheduled for Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Sacred Hearts Academy band room. (See below for directions.) Since we may occasionally change the rehearsal dates or location, please contact us to confirm that we will be there on the night you wish to attend.
Do I need to audition?
Adult members (18 years and over) do not need to formally audition to join the Ensemble. However, it is expected that new members be willing and able to meet the standards necessary to play the level of music typically performed by the Ensemble.
Student members (high school and very capable middle school students) who meet certain requirements may be allowed to participate with the Ensemble primarily during the summer when school is not in session. All students must have an adult sponsor who will vouch for their behavior as well as verify the student's ability to play at the level of the Ensemble.
Do I need to have my own instrument?
Other than a few small percussion items, the Ensemble does not own any instruments. With the exception of larger percussion equipment that we use with the approval of the host school, members are expected to provide their own instrument and all appropriate supplies.
Membership Form
All members are required to submit a completed HWE Membership Form before participating in the ensemble. This is mainly for liability, and for us to have available your contact as well as emergency contact information. Please bring the completed form to your first rehearsal that you attend.
How much does it cost?
Each member is asked to contribute $2 per rehearsal to help defray the cost of renting the band room, a nominal fee for several hours of enjoyment each week. However, no one will be denied membership if they cannot afford to pay. Our goal is to make music, not money!
What is the attendance policy?
The Ensemble gives performances and is not merely a reading group. The conductors work hard to achieve a particular blend and balance in the sound that is adversely affected when someone is absent. It is expected that ALL members be present at ALL rehearsals and not miss more than 2 rehearsals per concert season. However, we try to accommodate the various time commitments of our members and no one is penalized as long as a reasonable effort is made to be there.
Where can I get the music?
Each concert season a listing of music along with links to the music files and audio reference recordings are made available to the membership. Before each concert season members need to consult with their Section Leaders to receive their parts assignments.
