A Short Biography
Honglei Zhang is a principal researcher at Nokia Technologies and the founder for Ensintek Oy. He had been working in the Department of Computer Science at the Tampere University from 2013 to 2019. He received his PhD degree from Tampere University in 2019. He received his bachelor and master degree in Electrical Engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology in 1994 and 1996 in China. He worked as a software engineer in Founder Co. and Intel in China from 1996 to 1999. He worked as a software engineer and a software architect in Nokia (Finland) for about 14 years. He is enthusiastic about science and technologies. His current research topics are neural network based video coding and image compression. From the earlier working experience, he is also experts various machine learning applicaitons, such as human pose estimation, human body movement analysis, graph analytics, and face recognition. Currently, he leads Nokia's video coding for machines team, driving standardization efforts in ISO/MPEG.

Honglei Zhang is a principal researcher specializing in machine learning at Nokia, Finland. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 1994 and 1996, respectively. With a career spanning both China and Finland, Honglei has excelled in various roles, including software engineering and architecture at Nokia Oy Finland from 1999 to 2013. Transitioning to academia, he earned his Ph.D. in Signal Processing from Tampere University, Finland, in 2019. Honglei has authored over 40 papers and holds over 50 patents, focusing on image/video compression, graph data analysis, and artificial intelligence. Notably, Honglei received outstanding inventor awards in Nokia from 2021 to 2023. Currently, he leads Nokia's video coding for machines team, driving standardization efforts in ISO/MPEG.

A Longer Biography
Honglei Zhang is a researcher at Nokia Technologies and the founder of ENSINTEK Oy. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science, Tampere University in 2019, Finland. His research is focused on deep learning techniques, graph-based machine learning algorithms and graph analytics. Honglei has been developing algorithms that reveal undermined knowledge by finding clusters in a large graph. The developed algorithm has a broad range of applications, such as anomaly detection, data clustering, and graph data preprocessing. He also applied graph techniques in various machine learning problems, such as network architecture search for deep learning systems, feature dimension reduction and multilabel classification. Honglei has published more than 15 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and IEEE conferences and 3 patents.
Honglei received a Bachelor and a Master degree in Electric Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in China in 1994 and 1996 respectively. After graduation, he had been working as a software developer and a team leader in Founder Co. and Intel in China. From 1999 to 2012, he had been working as a software designer, software architect and senior software architect in Nokia Oy in Finland. As a software architect, he had been working with major operators in Europe and making high-level architecture design to ensure the compatibility, conformance, and robustness of Nokia platforms.
Honglei is also an entrepreneur and the founder of Ensintek Oy --- a company that provides software consulting services and guidance to companies in Finland to adopt artificial intelligence technologies in their businesses. His customers range from big companies with thousands of employees to small start-ups.
Honglei lives with his wife and their son. He enjoys playing badminton when not injured and taking care of his garden in short Finnish summers.
