A new grant, Research on the Development of Teaching and Learning Materials for AI-Mathematics Integrated Education in Primary and Secondary Schools, was awarded from the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (about $55,000 (KRW 70,000,000) for 6 months) in July, 2024. (Role: co-PI)
Prof. Hee-jeong Kim was invited to visit Viet Nam for leading a discussion at the 2024 Korea-Viet Nam Education Forum, and exchanged digital education ideas between two countries.
Ministry of Education and KEDI hosted the Forum of the Education in the Digital Transformation Era and invited Prof. Hee-jeong Kim to talk about AI Digital Textbook on Mathematics in February, 2024.
Prof. Hee-jeong Kim and Gima Lee visited Gazi University, a Middle School, and a High School in Türkiye in December, 2023. We've learned about their education and school system, and corroborated our collaboration-ship. (Feat. we became K-pop stars there.)

A new grant supporting emerging scholars was awarded from the National Research Foundation of Korea (about $ 15,800 (20,000,000 KRW)/year for 2 years) in May, 2022. We do hope that our research can support our children and young students to be better mathematical thinkers with growth mindset.
Our three papers were presented at the AERA in April, 2022.
The Turkey-Korea collaborative research on students mathematical values and mathematical modeling across cultures awarded from National Research Foundation of Korea and TUBAiK keeps going on in Korea University as well.
Master’s graduate Hayeon Jeong, currently working at the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, presented her research with Professor Hee-jeong Kim at the 2026 AERA Annual Meeting 2026 in Los Angeles, United States. Her presentation, titled “Integrating AI Chatbot Mentoring into Problem Posing-Based Learning: Exploring Mathematical Thinking and Student Engagement”, showcased her ongoing work and scholarly contributions. This experience provided a meaningful opportunity to broaden both the depth and breadth of our research.
In addition, a gathering of Korea University faculty members in Los Angeles offered a refreshing and enjoyable moment amid a busy conference schedule. These connections further developed into collaborative research initiatives. To be continued...

On February 24–25, 2026, Prof. Aki Murata(former professor of education at UC Berkeley and Stanford University) delivered a lecture and workshop series at Korea University under the theme “Lesson Study: Connecting Student and Teacher Learning.”
On February 24, she conducted a professional development workshop for elementary and secondary school teachers in Seoul, focusing on the history, global development, and professional learning dimensions of lesson study. On February 25, she presented an invited lecture for undergraduate and graduate students, highlighting theoretical and research perspectives on lesson study in mathematics education.
The two-day program fostered meaningful dialogue on collaborative professional learning and instructional improvement.
On February 20, 2026, TEAM KIM hosted a research seminar based on the Handbook of Digital Resources in Mathematics Education (Springer, 2024). Through chapter presentations and collaborative discussions, participants examined the pedagogical and theoretical implications of digital technologies in mathematics education.

EBSMath: Expanding Access to High-Quality Mathematics Learning for All Students
New content is now available! Before bedtime, take a moment to reflect on key mathematical concepts—explained in everyday language with the warm and engaging voice of teacher Seungje Jeong (his vocal delivery is truly outstanding!).
Master’s students Yoonhwa Noh and Dongin Yoo, along with doctoral student Gima Lee, participated in the AERA conference in the United States, where they presented their work and gained valuable experiences.
It was a meaningful opportunity to broaden both the depth and breadth of their research. Among the busy schedule, the gathering of Korea University colleagues felt like a breath of fresh air.
The final report presented research from four innovation research schools and highlighted the significance of the work carried out.
Prof. Kim discussed key perspectives on the future of mathematics education in Korea, at the Pannel Discussion, Conference of the 2024 KSME.
Prof. Kim had an amazing time meeting some of the top scholars in mathematics education and was truly honored to be invited to give a talk alongside such brilliant minds. Prof. Kim expressed her gratitude to Prof. Yufeng and Jinfa Cai for organizing everything and ensuring she was always well-fed. She also shared that they discussed many exciting opportunities for future conversations, collaborations, and research projects—including the possibility of visiting Korea.
Congratulations to our two students who brought their journey to a wonderful close and new start. Well done!

Over the summer, we concluded the Digital Talent Development 100 Forum as part of the vibrant and inspiring Classroom Innovation Conference.
It was a meaningful occasion to discuss research-based directions for digital education.
Since April, the National Principals’ Policy Training Program has been held.
Conducted in the form of an online talk concert, the sessions provided engaging discussions on digital transformation policy, accompanied at times by sharp and critical questions.
On May 29, 2024, Prof. Sunghwan Byun (North Carolina State University) delivered an invited lecture and mentoring session for graduate students, highlighting equitable mathematics instruction and professional development. It was a truly inspiring research presentation and engaging session. We keep seeking collaborative research opportunities.
All graduate students and Dr. Hangil Kim (Invited Contributor) studied all the chapters of the recent mathematics education book published from Springer. We, all, achieved a great deal. Let's give a round of applause to all of us. (One of the main editor of the book, Prof. Jinfa Cai supported our works! )

It was so impressive how the faculty and the graduate students in the department has focused on her talk with a passion on math education. We learned each other a lot.
