Research statement (Vietnamese below) 

My dissertation project is entitled "Global Public Reason and Participatory Global Governance: Towards a Model of Transnational Deliberative Innovations".

While examining the necessary conditions of a normative global order, political philosophers often see democracy as a desirable source of international legitimacy. Thus, proposals for international institutional reforms mainly differ in the range of democratic principles that philosophers desire to adopt. However, not much research on international legitimacy has been written from the perspective of ordinary citizens in non-democratic countries, although, supporters of democratic transformation advocate for an ideal condition of all related actors to be included in a decision-making process.

Therefore, my research examines ordinary citizens in non-democratic countries having their fundamental interests reflected in international politics. I argue that this is the interest of equal participation in international decision-making processes. My research seeks to contribute to the construction of a participatory theory of global governance which is normatively defensible, practically possible, and politically sustainable. The image that I have in mind, which is the primary motivation, is to work out an ideal and practical framework that would allow bringing individual citizens from non-democratic and democratic countries to sit in the same room and deliberate with each other about the global problems that directly, and profoundly, affect their well-beings.

Nghiên cứu của tôi tập trung vào góc nhìn và lợi ích của những người dân bình thường ở các quốc gia đang phát triền, đặc biệt các quốc gia không được phương Tây công nhận là dân chủ. Tôi lập luận rằng những lợi ích cơ bản của người dân ở những quốc gia này phải được phản ánh trong hệ thống chính trị quốc tế. Một trong những lợi ích cơ bản đó là lợi ích của việc tham gia bình đẳng trong quá trình phác thảo luật pháp quốc tế. Hình ảnh mà tôi nghĩ đến là xây dựng một khuôn khổ lý tưởng và thực tế cho phép đưa người dân từ tất cả các quốc gia ngồi trong cùng một phòng họp và thảo luận với nhau về các vấn đề chính trị toàn cầu- những vấn đề ảnh hưởng trực tiếp và sâu sắc đến cuộc sống hàng ngày của họ.
